Well you can, but you do have to ask why a chocolate place is putting in a planning application for Claire’s accessories.

Just because they can, some sort of prank or whatever?

Not unreasonable to read something a bit more than that into it

I have no idea.  I have made no comment at all on the application being discussed 🤷‍♂️

Just about to ask the same. Friend works there and hasn’t heard about this.

No idea.

There are two applications. One to reduce the shop frontage and another for the signs and such like. Thought they could do all of that as one, but not sure if that's the case.

Does say 83 Strand Street, which is showing as Claires, if you Google it. Maybe the address on the form is wrong or it's at the back or......?

Leonidas did announce record profits a couple of months ago and plan to open a lot of new shops mainly in Netherlands and France.

They have also been pushing their franchise operation and so that could well be what is happening on the Island.

They are a fairly famous Belgian chocolate brand . Wonder if they actually plan to open in the IOM or is it someone local using the same name ?

I would imagine a local entrepreneur taking on a franchise. Leonidas are actively looking for franchisees currently around Europe.

On Facebook, one of the IOMG agencies - Safeguarding/IOM Constabulary are running a competition. There are 3 prizes, 1*£50 Amazon voucher, 1*£30 Amazon voucher and 1*£20 Amazon voucher. Naturally there has been consternation about Amazon vouchers being offered as prizes, which counters against the Shop Local message spouted by IOMG, the Chamber of Commerce and others. Surely a prize could have been sourced/offered from a ‘local’ retailer? Or perhaps local retailers don’t wish to offer something as prizes in return for publicity?

Yes, interesting. I suppose the question is where would you choose, locally, for say 8 - 15 year olds to appeal to all? Not all children are into gaming, clothes, toys.

IOMG hypocrisy at its best

Very. Would it not have been easier to offer the prizes as a cash amount? The winners could spend within the local economy. Whilst Amazon vouchers are useful, there are many items from Amazon where Amazon won’t deliver to the island, couple in the recent boat cancellations due to the weather/teething problems. Maybe, Game vouchers, or perhaps Google/Apple vouchers are other alternatives? You can buy them locally.

Local retailers probably weren’t even approached.
