Firm closing

My bread maker is doing grand.  Made a malt loaf today.  Had fresh bread almost every day since the start of April.  One slice fills you up, I know what’s gone in it.

Done rolls, loaves, pizza, cake, focaccia, whole meal, white, brown - and next Easter we’ll be making hot x buns that don’t taste of toilet cleaner.

Except people don't need it as much as they used to.  In the 50-odd pages on this topic, no one seems to concentrated in this simple fact.  Look at this graph showing the decline in total sales since 1974 (roughly when Ramsey Bakery started up):

Not only have total sales of bread gone down, but all the decline has been in white bread.  Wholemeal and 'other' (such as sourdough) have kept volume or increased.  So white bread is only about a third of the sales that they did about 50 years ago.  (While those figures only go up to 2014, more recent ones show a further decline).

Which means if, like Ramsey Bakery, your core business is Chorleywood-type white sliced, you're making less money and you will certainly be unwilling to invest further in expensive machinery to service a dying market.  There may have been other reasons that closure happened at this particular time and so quickly (family matters, labour shortages, rising prices) but that's the basic reason why they are shutting down, like so many similar companies have in Britain over recent years.

This obviously explains why religion and the lords prayer...'give us our daily bread' is in severe decline.

Up there with Steam Racket, Flymaybe, Eighteen sixty sniff, Fyn-odouree and  Noah way ( Just invented the last two but quite pleased with them )
