Unfortunately it isn't. I know you enjoy a drawn-out bit of quibbling focusing on obscure details, so here's some references to trigger you.

Note that Google trends data, which is a solid metric rather than an opinion, shows a decline of interest in veganism, which is inarguable.

Peak veganism was in 2019, but a variety of factors, including cost, supplier interest and shifting social media focus have shifted interest away from it.

Actually most of those links illustrate what I was talking about, which was that a lot of the fake meat brands have not been a success.  Partly this is the usual phenomenon that when everyone jumps on a bandwagon it tends to stop rolling because of the weight.  Some of it may be because shoppers are cynical about a lot of these new corporate bands and whether they are truly vegan.

But the main reasons seems to be that most vegans and vegetarians and even those looking to eat less meat aren't really interested in soya expensively and elaborately processed into something almost but not entirely unlike something they're not really interested in eating in the first place.  All the effort seems to go into getting the look and the texture right (which will put actual vegans off if anything) and nothing into making them taste of anything much.

But none of that is proof that veganism is on a sudden decline, just that marketing people aren't very good at understanding their markets rather that just copying what other marketing people do.  As for the article based on Google Trends, those aren't really solid anything, just a snapshot and and you can find similar articles saying the opposite.  A real trend requires multiple data points over time and of course it only tells you what people are looking up, not what they are doing.

@jackwhite did say that the 6 month running of the vegan restaurant was a complete success though

Well it’s now well and truly closed and a burger joint is in there. They should have known that anyone who was a vegan last year is now probably something else as veganism seems to be the latest fad to try to portray the fact that you’re better than anyone else. It will be something else next week.

Anyone any updates on timberland shop in Onchan, been shut for at least 3/4 months and according to many facebook posts people who have paid deposits, awaiting fitting are unable to get hold of anyone. Calls to number and emails are unanswered, shop still has all samples etc in shop but no sign of anyone

I see the vegan restaurant that was in Peter Luis has now re-opened as a burger bar. That seems to have been a one hit wonder. It must have run out of vegan idiots fairly quickly.

It's called Smash 'n' Fry   Menu looks interesting.. Nice to have fried chicken or a burger  on a night out 🙂

Nah, I knew you'd say exactly this and go off on a tangent about it, and I've been waiting for that response since the second I posted it.

Only one of those links focuses on fake meat, the others all talk about a decline of interest in plant-based products as a whole, which is reflected in the shutdown of numerous product lines and suppliers.

Veganism was a social media trend for a while, but people have moved on. There will always be Vegans and an interest in veganism, but what's dropped off is the use of it for virtue-signaling on social media.
