The function room upstairs is being used so certainly could avoid the latter situation you mention.

Could be just me, but I think some of the things on that menu are overpriced.

I think it’s a pretty good menu, reasonably priced in this day and age and if it is served upstairs in the Embassy  ( or whatever it’s called) will be booking shortly.

Surprising that there isn't a Steak ( or two) on the menu, an easy and popular way to increase turnover?

Maybe that and only that, is down to Richards ego???

Clearly restaurants these days need to serve more carrots.

The menu is clearly aimed at what you might call the Athol Street work crowd - posh snack lunches and post-work.  Hence the early evening hours and no Saturday night or Sunday service.  Hence also the higher-end pricing for what it is (presumably compensated by quality).

I'd say pretty standard UK pub pricing as Derek has already alluded to above.

How much is fish, chips and peas in the chippy? Bet you don't get much change from £12 - £15.

£9.80 at Glynns chippy in Ballywalter beautiful home cooked chips and fresh cod from Portavogie, best feed I have had in a long time.

Now that does sound good. Have a feeling the fish alone is about 7 - 8 here, I stopped going as the price was eye watering and the quality debatable!

If you are isle of man resident then its cheaper to get the Manx national heritage membership  for £40 per year

https://www.friendsofmnh.org/join/

Additional adult at same address is £30 per year

It has a reciprocal arrangement with national trust etc  and even some overseas schemes..

Fish and chips served in most brewery pubs is £10 - £14 depending on what you order with it.
