Of course if the place remains unlet, the government will lose money, but getting your way in inter-departmental battles is more important. Treasury's push for revenue, all Departments now tasked with it. Of course, pushing private enterprise out of business doesn't equate to actually less revenue to their minds, all they can see is the need for the immediate bottom line in their blinkered vision. They would be better placed to deal with the "spiralling costs" if they weren't additionally hobbled by rent rises from the Government. Do you seriously think that these premises are worth a rise in rent? Do you not think that Govt would be better with a tenant paying slightly less than what some over-pensioned bell-end (who has never worked in the private sector) thinks is the "going rate", rather than the premises lying empty and earning no revenue at all? Where is the support for "fledgling businesses" from our alleged Department for Enterprise? Freedom to Flourish my arse. It's nothing more than an expectation that people and businesses will continue to just stump up to fund the parasite. Fred the shred Posted January 14 Share Posted January 14 VOR missing the point I think the increasing costs were hard to take but the increase of rent by our stupid and greedy government coupled with lease commitments was the final nail in the coffin. These tenants have other outlets and increased costs of raw materials and services have not caused the closure of these. Lack of competition. Credit card/insurnace difficulties. Health service falling apart.
