Numbnuts
Colas took over Auldyn and they seem to have disappeared after the ‘Prom’ debacle . They have got to have taken a hit on that contract .

Any variation to the original contract costs big time!! How much was the original price and what was the final price?

How much was the original price and what was the final price? I get what your saying but the fact that snagging dragged on so long and there was cutbacks on extent of works would suggest that all was not good on the finance side. And the fact Auldyn basically disapeared at end of the contract would say they took a hit. Certainly with what I know went on most of the issues were argued over and most were Government and DOI at fault . But Auldyn maybe compromised over it. As for price it’s never been announced what final cost was/is and I’m guessing that’s how it will stay for this Tynwald. It was to have cost 25 million tops but clearly with all that was cut back it’s subjective how much , what they did , cost . WTF
9 hours ago, Kopek said: Surely it's better for the Govt to keeep Colas in work than import??? not if they are doing such a shit job to keep themselves in work in the first place, or if they no longer have persons with the necessary skills employed that can do a proper job , look at gansey , local workforce produce a corrugated road surface , people from across come over that actually know how to use the equipment/machinery and it gets redone to a very good standard. Ringy Rose
10 hours ago, Kopek said: Surely it's better for the Govt to keeep Colas in work than import??? Depends. They imported when they resurfaced the airport, to the extent the company set up their own tarmac plant down the end of the runway. It’s telling that the airport resurfacing is one of the few things done competently down there recently. The King Gaming collapse has to have affected the building trade too, that was a big contract. You’re assuming that that development was ever going to happen and that it wasn’t worth them just chucking a few million at a rundown plot to make it look like they were going to fund one of the IOMs biggest developments ever just to stop the regulators asking too many questions on where the money was coming from.

In a way, the F&D festival was the last of the larger outdoor events of the summer, heading towards the autumn. Perhaps it wasn’t making a profit? Oddly it's still being advertised on various Gov sites. VisitIom have it advertised and saying how successful it was in 2023. Do these people not talk to each other. Come along and sample the finest Manx produce. The Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival will take place on Saturday 14th September and Sunday 15th September 2024, in the Villa Marina Gardens, Douglas. Over 10,000 people attended the 2023 Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival which showcased over 60 local food and drink producers and their businesses. The weekend’s two day event in 2024 will be among the biggest held in the Island. One of its big attractions is the street food style Saturday evening event with music, drink and theatre attractions taking place

It takes time to build these events up, and whilst there were definitely some gripes with the format it was becoming established on the calendar, and seems odd to ditch it relatively last minute without a proper alternative? Presumably if it was not successful the announcement could have been made last winter.
