However the wheat farmers are stuffed as are Noas & Ross bakery if flour mills close.

Noa would have no problem either.
The Duck of Atholl
I owe Ramsey Bakery a great debt. I thought their read was so poor and overpriced I started baking my own.

The cheap bread won't stay as cheap as it is as costs are rising across the British Isles and beyond, but it will remain relatively cheap in comparison to island based bread as they don't have the economies of scale to sell at the lower price. M&S do a 60p loaf. That's across the UK and IOM. It won't make that much difference. Edited April 2, 2022 by 0bserver

Alfie says Government should have been informed! It’s possible that Ramsey Bakery may have intimated to Government of its concerns, but they are unbelievably stubborn and they know best, that they have given up. Since when do companies have to tell Government first? Are they going to provide financial assistance for energy costs? Staffing Costs? Raw Materials costs? If this is the case then engineering factories, other companies would want the same treatment. Unless IOMG has recently provided grants for the purchase of equipment? Then they would have a say. With all of the uncertainty in the world we should be looking to provide as much for ourselves as we can as quick as we can - we shouldn't need to be totally reliant on the 'world' providing for us .. If life revolves around a cheap pizza we need to have a reality check......quick.

Martin Bakers are the biggest electricity consumers on the island so it will be interesting to see their game plan.
Tempus Fugit
I prefer RB thick sliced wholemeal to imported options which I find are mostly very dry and more suited to toasting, maybe I'll be getting a bread machine 😞

They have to buy what they can afford and if the local bread costs more than 90% of the imports then that’s going to hurt RB business. I hope you and the rest of the council remember people on the bread line then next time you look to raise rates and waste money on shit you haven't thought through http://www.douglas.gov.im/index.php/news/council-news/item/2786-council-frustrated-by-regulations#.YkkvmWnTU0E
