SleepyJoe
1 hour ago, Boris Johnson said: This from the manx radio website. Re the 500k tourists... ............by 2032, one of the objectives is to develop 500 new hotel, and serviced accommodation, bedrooms. Michael George - the joint-proprietor of the Welbeck Hotel in Douglas - says it's important those plans don't damage trade for existing businesses: I read that as we cant have anyone building new and better hotels, we must keep existing?> Does that mean we cant encourage new modern accommodation and must just keep flogging a 1960s type of accommodation with often shared bathrooms to a modern clientele? So we must stop improvements? This ladies and gentlemen is why the island is slipping (Slipped?) into a hole of its own making and will never recover tourist wise. Supporting new development for creation of one Premier Inn is acceptable - deliberately undermining existing hoteliers [who are significantly invested in their existing properties] by encouraging a whole load of new builds is not The island already has too many hotels traditional in nature & few of them earn enough in a very short summer season to reinvest significantly in their properties
Numbnuts
They need to put these ideas on the back burner for a couple of years till they sort out the mess there is all around Douglas and in other towns. . Finish sorting out the paths around the Island , the House of Manannen and other areas . Of course the prom goes without saying. Summerland should have been cleaned up ages ago and generally areas are not as they should be. Ohhhh , and the Airport desperately needs sorted from a management point of view and operational . If you believe RC 's figures that there were 330,000 visitors in 2019 before Covid then its only a adveragebofbaround 3000 a week to get to the Half million stated ...Only !!

This was a bit like Eddie and his bed nights for the film industry which was absolute horseshit ! We would save long thousands, if not more, by divesting ourselves of the people who feed our politicians the blurb to spout in the first instance. 3

0bserver
500,000 sounds like a lot. But how many do we already have pre-covid? This morning someone suggested to me that the new Starship Enterprise figures are only a 3.5% increase.
