The strategy to attract 500,000 visitors!

The Tourism lot have just put all their balls in one basket, motorcycle sport, that is why they are bigging up the T.T.    I do not believe for one minute they have twelve hundred trained Marshalls or sufficient hospital beds to cover this event, they may be drafting in extra medical staff but they cannot knit beds.   With the digital age being well and truly established it is disturbing that about half the residents in the UK are unaware where the Isle of Man is. There has been absolutely no promotion of our Island for years.  The dance festivals brought thousands of people to our shores as well as the sporting events.    When we were doing ok some years back tourism was let to slide and all the tourist amenities with it.   It could be revived with tenacity and investment but vision and the appetite to do it is needed.

'Project Trident'

Funnily enough I was talking to an ex copper about this exact thing a couple of weeks ago.

He said previously most of the violence was in town in the pubs and clubs and would be caught on CCTV and fairly easy convictions would follow.

Project Trident effectively wiped out the nightlife here, forced everyone into their homes and now all the domestic violence has picked up and it's a nightmare to convict.

(He was probably busy being measured-up for a new tutu.)

Corkish forced through the silly choir festival and used a substantial amount of the department budget on his vanity project.  If we only invite tourists over 70 why are we surprised when we have a hyper aged population?

Speaking of which, must book my tickets for the Wurlitzer!

Daffy is asking questions in this weeks sitting of Tynpotwald. She is concerned about the state of the heritage sites on the island, and Laxey Wheel. The island specialises in dereliction. Douglas is a dirty dump and a lot of other sites are tired, uncared for and poor in appearance - the Sea Terminal is a case in point. Daffy can ask question after question but unfortunately nothing is going to be done.

Apparently we have 6,500 beds available for tourism, plus camping and homestay at TT time!

If we had 6,500 visitors staying one week for 52 weeks of the year we would have 338,000 visitors annually!

All of our capacity is now converted into cheap flats!

Mrs Caine's questions in next weeks Tynwald are entirely horse tram related

Or not so cheap as the case may be.
