I saw John Wanneburgh mention that the busses were being used to service cruise ships. If this is the case, then DOI have some serious questions to answer.

asitis
The most damaging thing about the island in any business sense is the Government and Civil Service ! The old chestnut of "they are looking down the back of the sofa for pennies" is true and perhaps going to get worse. It stands to reason things will unravel, whilst the island is spending millions on all sorts of wild schemes, and also having to pay out millions in ND deals and compensation. The government and CS are an avaricious and profligate monster with no one seemingly able to tame it !

Quite right you shouldn’t need to check Facebook before you do anything because government is so bad at running services you don’t know whether anyone has turned up for work or not.

Are they just short of drivers or are drivers just using the I’ve tested positive for Covid with no symptoms excuse for a week off?

The drivers are on an hourly rate. They just can’t be arsed working the hours they’re given. It’s the downside of zero hours contracts. If it’s sunny and they’ve got enough money in their back pocket they simply can’t be arsed turning up. They were offering double the standard rate for some shifts just to get people to accept work. The sad thing here is that they clearly sacked off the taxpaying public so they had enough drivers to drive cruise passengers around. They're not short of drivers. They're all doing private hire work for cruise ships. Just coincidence that there's a massive ship on Victoria Pier again today...
