They have actually introduced a new timetable that actually reflects the current ability to run services. What could have possibly changed in the last couple of days to allow that.... The whole thing is daft though. At the moment we have a day by day bus service. Who can be arsed checking on Facebook or elsewhere online what their chances are of getting a bus from where you are to where you need to go? We can’t even provide fundamental public services anymore despite that fact that just about every public sector entity you care to mention currently has their hand out demanding more pay from the taxpayer. I think we’re all having the total piss taken out of us now.
Declan
Well that’s the reason for issuing the contingent bus timetable until the schools break up. This will give the users confidence that the bus will be there, and remove the need for daily list of cancellations.

They've cut one bus an hour from the south route (it looks like) and a few other bits. They should just make this the permanent timetable. Nobody is going to miss the bus over the sloc

But buses to the Hospital actually go from Lord Street. Passengers would be better advised to t/f at either the Brown Bobby or get off and on Pulrose Bridge and walk round the corner to the stop on Peel Road. The trouble with losing the direct hospital bus from the South is that some people with poor mobility and/or sight prefer to use it so as to avoid having to change, even though it might take longer. Especially if it otherwise involves crossing a busy road or a longish walk. Of course these are very people most likely to have a lot of hospital appointments and no transport of their own. Hopefully the previous timetable will be resumed fairly quickly.

There's only ever a bus that way (and you should take it if you can cos it is great) when the racing is on round Billown.

Well it says here that buses to the Sloc and the arse end of nowhere will not operate. Agreed though, the views up there are great.
TheTeapot
Oh sorry I'd forgot about the one that goes out Glen Maye. That was about 2 buses a day. Getting rid of the 28 is a bit harsh too. Big walk up to Cregneash, and I guess the cafe is only for those with a car now.

Didn't the number 1 used to go up there (Cregneash) every other hour during the day? Or was that removed as another Longworth improvement? Or was that removed as another Longworth improvement? The number one went up Cregnesh (and some went up Bradda at that time) when buses were half hourly or hourly double deckers. The strategy has been to have the buses on the road on the main income generating service. The knowledge that there's a frequent and reliable bus encourages bus use. What has happened is the slack in the system - trips round the country, drivers sat in the depot between journeys, has been systematically reduced. It's worked well, in terms of customer service and passengers numbers (we're told) but recent weeks have shown that there's now not enough slack in the system to cope with driver shortages. A reduced service of three an hour on the Southern Route might be better in the long term to enable the less popular routes to be run but the continginency timetable will need rejigging if it's permanent. (There seems to be only one bus an hour between PE and PSM and between two per hour between PSM and PE 5 minutes apart - the Cregnesh service would even this out). monasqueen
Unlucky 13 has been ditched. People down King Edward Road will now have to catch the tram, but that doesn't go beyond Derby Castle.

0bserver
DOI introduce a so-called 'contingency' timetable yet still can't fulfil the reduced number of services.
The Voice of Reason
Despite the contingency arrangement timetable saying the 3/3A 20:10 from Ramsey is unaffected it hadn’t appeared from Ramsey at 20:30, if it appeared at all. Seems like a bit of a lottery. The bus service used to be so reliable. Maybe in these troubled time people should resort to hitch hiking. I would certainly be more responsive to giving a lift to those holding out a thumb.
