Bus Vannin in Crisis

To be fair, there was a nice Hotel at the southern M6 exit that was very nice. Used it several times to explore the area.

Let ourselves out thru the kitchen one early morning before anyone was up to go to London to buy a Cosworth, blast of a ride back!!!! Radar guns in those days were just not quick enough!!!!

If we've really declared a climate emergency ( a few years ago now wasn't it?) then surely a priority should be to pay bus drivers enough to want to do the job, and perhaps training other people who would like to do it too.

Surely this would have a greater impact than massively subsidising the road tax and fuel of a very few of their rich mates who can afford to buy an electric vehicle. Or is it only the carbon footprint of rich people we want to reduce? Public transport can be used by almost anyone, especially if the fares are subsidised for public transport rather than cruise ship jollies.

That still doesn't answer the question of how to attract new drivers, nurses and teachers into these jobs?

is a subsidised  re-training required???

Not having to pay a Kings ransom to get on/off the place would go a long way.

The second hand sale price of the 70+ mini busses will be shocking and will be at a huge, huge  loss.

This is the main reason I think he walked, mini busses are basically worthless and especially ones with £20 - £30 Ks worth of specialist chair lifts and the like fitted. No one wants them or if they do they will buy a new one.

Mini bus second hand sales are very different to used bus sales, very different.

The losses involved will make your eyes water if we ever get the truth.

I’d quite like one for a camper conversion and I’ve spoken to others with the same idea, but it could be they get shipped to the UK and sold on for a higher price as that’s what they do with the regular buses.

I’ve got no idea what the scheduled service life will be, whether it’s age or mileage, only that myself and a few others are eyeing them up when the time comes. As a rough guide most DOI vehicles tend to be 8-12 years old at auction.

Wasn't Longworth also in charge of vehicle procurement across Government ?. Interestingly apparently all the ambulances are also Mercedes too.

This might answer your question, at least in part.

Somebody recently posted a document on here with DOI minibus fleet years and annual mileage?

Ah yes, Nick Black and we all know how that ended. A CEO being provenly led by the nose by his department managers to include Ian Longworth who was ego and empire-building on the taxpayers backs whilst leaving a trail of service and infrastructure mayhem in his wake.

I hope in about 5 years time (it'll take that long for things to become fully apparent and to do the calculations) somebody puts an FOI request in for exactly how much this period has cost in £sd.
