Wasn't there a dedicated airport bus service at one point, every 30 mins or something like that?

Not in my time, the South Buses have always turned  into the airport.  There used to be a works bus to the factories opposite.

One opposite railway station and another opposite school

But not every stop between the airport and Douglas has one, and none of them have a nice warm airport terminal to wait in.

Possibly back in the 60s/70s when there was still a proper bus station (of a rather nifty modernist design) and the public were actually allowed to sit in it, though they were soon expelled and it was converted to government offices.  Fewer people had cars or access to one (there wasn't much parking at the airport either) and buses were less frequent generally outside Douglas.  And people actually went to the Airport and its cafe as a destination.

But I doubt it was as frequent as every 30 minutes and being on the main road south meant combining services with others going in that direction made sense.

The old bus and air terminal was great you could get off the Willaston  or Pulrose bus , check in for your flight  and book you luggage through to your final destination  ,  even if you had to transfer to International   , your bags were in the system and very few were lost , and they call todays travel progress ? I don't thinks so , they even gave the kids a barley sugar sweet ,

Has there been any news on the bus cap? Is it going to be extended when it expires in January?

"The trial did not notably increase passenger numbers and cost us a lot of money so it will not be extended and fares will increase across the board by approximately a third, starting 1 February."

Is that an actual quote?

Chris Thomas wasn't averse to free bus travel but more concerned it would cost BV millions in ticket sales. Maybe they wouldn't lose so much if they reduced the number of buses per hour they send around Douglas and Onchan. Instead of one every 20 minutes, one every half hour?

Bloody hell, that’s radical!! The southerners were up in arms when they proposed changing from 4 an hour to 3 !!!

Designed to fail.

You may be overestimating their foresight.  I think it was more "Let's throw something together that looks as if were doing something without actually doing anything much".  Hence the way they forgot to do anything about the Go Cards till it was pointed out to them.

Forgetting to announce what was happening to the scheme would be typical as well.  Though it's possible that are wrangling with Treasury for more money, even then they should say something.
