Ashford: Should he stay or should he go?

136 members have voted

  1. 1. What is the forums view on this fantasists ability to hang on to a role on Comin?

    • He should resign himself
    • He should be told to go regardless
  2. 2. Does anyone think he has the personal integrity to tender a resignation himself without being pushed?

  3. 3. Should the UK also be asking questions about his MBE?

What a snivelling little non-apology apology.  Straight from the Westminster playbook of 'not wanting to be the story'.  Without considering why he is the story.

No apology to Dr Ranson.  No apology to the public.  No apology to anyone except the CM.  No admitting responsibility, never mind blame.  Two pages of waffle plus a bit of patting himself on the back for a couple of minor improvements.  Which itself illustrates how little he's done in the last seven months.

A professional resignation letter should be short and to the  point, in 3 or 4 sentences. It's not the place to score points, argue your case or puff yourself up.

Yeah 2 years max in the wilderness. I wonder if he'll become a departmental member? Which minister would have him?

They should give him the Infrastructure gig next as a punishment.

Actually no he will just be conned by Longworth into spending billions on a Mercedes space rocket.

Hmm...

Two on Churchill; one on Heseltine; "We, the Nation: The Conservative Party and the Pursuit of Power" by Andrew Davies; and a (royal?) biography by Sarah Bradford.

Pretty standard bed time reading...

I wonder.  Cannan isn't in the same position as Quayle was.  He doesn't have a CoMin with a majority that is happy to do whatever the boss tells them.  Most of the new Ministers have their own plans for their Departments and it may be significant that this took place on Friday after the weekly CoMin on Thursday.  Perhaps a majority of the Ministers simply said that Ashford had to go.  Whether the same thing is true about Greenhow's 'retirement' may also be worth thinking about.

Playing the victim is exactly the sort of behaviour to be expected after their fall from grace. It will be pity party all the way from now on.

Whilst little sympathy with Ashford, if his children are getting abuse then I don’t think that’s acceptable

Now he should hand back his MBE.

Never going to happen (although it should). In his mind he's the injured party, not Dr Ranson or anyone else. He probably hugs his MBE close to his heart as he cries himself to sleep each night. Diddums. 🤢

As we got from Bell (and Gelling) after the Mount Murray Report. Faux outrage over not being totally exonerated.

Pretty standard bed time reading self-aggrandising Zoom background bookshelf.

I'm sure we all thought about doing the same during lockdown, until we realised how actually pathetic it was.
