136 members have voted

  1. 1. What is the forums view on this fantasists ability to hang on to a role on Comin?

    • He should resign himself
    • He should be told to go regardless
  2. 2. Does anyone think he has the personal integrity to tender a resignation himself without being pushed?

  3. 3. Should the UK also be asking questions about his MBE?

As we are taking a trip down memory lane.  During the PAC hearing, Mr Ashford claimed that he has written 'codes' in a previous job and believed it was possible that the dhss staff member could have copied the code by looking over Dr Glovers shoulder.

The letter from the AG claiming that the allegedly stolen code was in fact written in house.  Quite a strong position for the AG to take.

There is a section of IoM society for whom Govt could never do any wrong and there are a number of characteristics.

Largely, it's older generation, perhaps those who have never lived anywhere else for extended time and to whom the Island is their whole world and who simply don't know any different. The ones who take everything Govt says as gospel and bend their knees to elected and public officials. Who tug their forelocks and promise their votes on the doorstep. These are the ones our elected pander too, getting dogshit cleaned up and squeaky gate hinges oiled are miraculous acts to this part of the electorate.

However, they are also possessed of an innate fear of the Govt. The fear that to speak out or badly will see one's job or career threatened or invite a knock at the door on a dark night and never to be seen again. FWIW my own parents were of this ilk.

These people still exist although they are of a dying breed. A more worldly Outlook and the Internet and social media are breeding a more informed generation.

Of course some in Govt much prefer this older generation because they are finding it difficult to cope with the New World.

We have a huge public sector employment on the Isle of Man who depend on a government pay slip as do their nearest and dearest. Any of those in that employment chain do feel threatened if they fall fowl of their government bosses.

Given what we have found out we can be assured this problem has not gone away

It’s worse than that with Ashy though. There’s still a load of mad old bats out there who think that he literally saved their lives during lockdown

Well it’s not that improbable.

Do you recall those few months of media interest where the Isle of Man was the only place in the British Isles not to have any Covid deaths?

Obviously not down to DA on his own but a collective effort from the previous administration.

I am not a mad old bat but may be described as one of the “ vulnerable” members of society, as evidenced by being prioritized for vaccination.

Truth told we won’t know but I think that some here have incredibly short memories.

Let's not get carried away, we followed a failed UK policy whilst bullying our medical director and ignoring the advice of our medics.

We sure made up the numbers pretty quickly: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-55178508

That's very much irrelevant, really. Deaths were just delayed in the process.

All that happened because of public compliance. 'We', the GMP made a relative success out of it. You're insinuating that Walter and significant others saved the day whereas in actuality, all they did was instigate what PHE were recommending, and even then the administration dragged their heels over locking-down.

Well, it's all coming out in the wash, but obviously yours is the shorter memory, seems like you've conveniently forgotten the verdict of the tribunal already.

Defending the indefensible...
