Ashford: Should he stay or should he go?

136 members have voted

  1. 1. What is the forums view on this fantasists ability to hang on to a role on Comin?

    • He should resign himself
    • He should be told to go regardless
  2. 2. Does anyone think he has the personal integrity to tender a resignation himself without being pushed?

  3. 3. Should the UK also be asking questions about his MBE?

The only rebuttal will be more shite and excuses. Ashford is an embarrassment who should lie low, lick his wounds, keep quiet then I’m sure the Manx establishment will forget his overall wallyness, and reappoint him another ministerial role. If he wants to spew vengeance and go after those he feels has wronged him, then he has to be sure he hasn’t got lots of skeletons rattling around. Social media will get him.

Another Point by Point rebuttal expected soon?

Former DHSC minister waiting for restrictions to lift

The former treasury minister says he 'regrets' the findings of an employment tribunal but claimed he'll have 'a lot more to say' once restrictions around the whistle blowing case are lifted.

Unrepentant. Worth the 2 minutes listening to his statement. Once again he's relying on the sub judice 'theory' to block questioning. Is this definition of what is and isn't sub judice open to legal challenge? Would a Westminster MP be able to use the same ruse to evade difficult questions?

There'll be a considerable length of time before he's able to "speak freely" as any inquiry or review certainly won't be happening overnight. By the time anything substantial and findings delivered he may have been voted out if he doesn’t walk beforehand...

He just has to have the last word. Nor a shred of humanity or empathy in the man. He should accept the judgment of the Tribunal, apologise for the fact that Dr Ranson’s dreadful treatment happened on his watch (even if he wasn’t directly involved in employment decisions) and slide quietly away. This constant whining and ‘I know things’ attitude is embarrassing and disingenuous.

I sense most people are sick of him babbling on.  He loved the limelight and is desperate to remain in the public eye.  Let him carry on - he will doubtless paint himself into a corner.

The thing about Ashford is that he's the sort of person who has always got on by doing what he's told - he's one of nature's sidekicks.  So after having done that, he's now upset and hurt that he's having to bear the consequences of supporting the wrong people - he's only got rewarded in the past for similar behaviour.

Now there's plenty of evidence in the Decision that he had an idea of quite a lot of what was going on and when he didn't, he made efforts to remain in that state of ignorance.  But even if that wasn't true, he's missing the point that in that case it would make him even more unsuitable to be a Minister, who is supposed to do more than act as a puppet for their CEO.

Why was he on radio5?  Is this damage control to the islands reputation?  By not apologising to Dr Ranson publicly and doubling down on his bullshit statement, the damage is irreplaceable.

Poster was listening to the radio AT 5 O'CLOCK, not Radio 5...

You misread it.  Banker wrote "radio at 5", presumably the Manx Radio interview that a clip of features in this news piece.

Edited to add: The whole talk of sub judice is complete nonsense.  The definition in the Standing orders (which ought to be amended/abolished immediately anyway) only applies within the Court and he or anyone else can say what they want outside it.

I think David Ashford has set about the task of thoroughly justifying his removal from Government very admirably. He should not have been allowed to resign but sacked by the CM before his arrogance and attention-seeking made the decision to not get rid of him immediately look ill-judged. He is merely a nothing of a man who has been given the opportunity of looking important beyond any actual worth and is now stamping his little feet because it has been taken away from him. Please David, just go into the corner and stroke your medal and yourself where nobody has to witness it.

I don't know why, but I picture him having tiny little child feet.  Like a Manx version of Trump's tiny little hands.

Dr Glover was an unwelcome distraction in having to deal with her nonsense instead of getting on with the job in hand.

Could you elaborate and explain what you think my "nonsense" was? Feel free to give specifics, time points, how it distracted - exactly - from the "job in hand".
