Wow , seems this is a definite planned response to failures of Government Depts. Anyone with half a brain knew that theres something seriously wrong with recruitment in Government . This all looks promising and there must be some worried staff in CS .

In Conie's case it had as much to do with the way she behaved in league with Magson over the Ranson case as was exposed in the Decision.

She had been in the job for only a few months, but she is responsible.

Nevertheless, her resignation statement is more honest than the others so far.

Executive director of HR resigns government post

Clare Connie[sic] leaves with immediate effect

The executive director of the Office of Human Resources has resigned from government with immediate effect. 

Clare Conie was promoted to the role in 2021 having worked for the Isle of Man Government since 2003.

Her departure precedes a review of OHR which has been instigated following the results of an employment tribunal which found the former medical director was unfairly dismissed.

Government says that will seek to ensure the highest standards of professional practice are maintained.

In a statement Mrs Conie said: “As the largest employer on the Isle of Man it’s essential that the Isle of Man Government can be held up as an exemplar of good practice and that our values are demonstrated at all levels of our workforce. 

“My aim in stepping aside is to ensure that the OHR review can be undertaken comprehensively, objectively and with full transparency to ensure the integrity of OHR people and practices.”

These announcements are clearly being sent out prearranged as they're appearing on the news websites more or less simultaneously.

ETA. some good news: "No cases of monkeypox have yet been recorded on the Isle of Man", according to Glenn Blacker, head of health protection at Public Health at the time of writing.

Well it's been obvious that govt HR has been severely dysfunctional in that it's been incapable of getting rid of people who probably should never have been employed in the first place, let alone remain in emplyment.

But just getting rid of the head might not be enough.  You need a change of culture where all staff are tightly performance managed and where anybody - up to an including chief secretary - can be got rid off if they don't perform

You need a strong HR function
