It's apparently because they didn't mean to glass the bouncer as they thought they were glassing a non-bouncer (twice).

Well of course , that makes it fine then ! What a load of bollocks. Not your comment , just the thought process of the system and courts.

Totally agree.

It was interesting to see Manx Radio report on the Courts almost growing a pair and handing down an 11 year sentence (although he'll be out in 5).

11 years for that though is weak. It should be life with chemical castration to stop them doing it again.

Dirty little rapists should be left to rot.

I was surprised you can hit someone in the head twice with a glass and get non-cust.............not go to prison.

Agree. Disgraceful. Also banned for drink driving in 2020. Maybe he needs to have a think about the common denominator!

It's not so much the weak sentencing it is the baffling discrepancy in sentencing, between seemingly victimless crimes that get harsh sentences and the slap on the wrist for the ones that all logic and reason indicates should get their just desserts.

The latest example of weak sentencing.

Beats the shit out of someone on Strand Street in broad daylight while on a suspended sentence... outcome? Community Service.

It seems about right in that case.  The victim doesn't seem to have suffered any serious injury and didn't want to press charges.  It clearly wasn't a 'professional' attack or it wouldn't have taken place in Strand Street with loads of people around.  The previous offence wasn't for violence.

Incredible stuff really.

This is worse. Desperate homeless woman with nowhere to live smashes a police van window in order to get arrested so she can have somewhere to sleep gets fined the cost of the window she broke. No space can be found for her anywhere to actually house her and no other support can be given to her other than a fine and 12 months probation.

Pathetic. He will probably get loads of support, sympathy and help with lifestyle issues, unlike others who work hard, have issues but haven’t had the breaks.

I think there are other issues at play, particularly as to why nobody wishes to house her. I don’t like how she was given anonymity, not named in the press. She will be housed if she fails to complete probation and the fine will come out of benefits.

Amazingly though, any person charged with cannabis related charges can almost guarantee a jail sentence…

That’s the impression the media and social media seems to portray.

Large numbers are never charged and diverted from court under the DARS scheme.

Most people charged with possession ( and that’s the vast majority ) get fines, or at least non custodial, if repeat offenders.

Its only importers/producers who get prison, and not all of them.
