0bserver
How is anyone surprise by the results. You let amateurs build soapbox racers with powerful engines. You let them speed around narrow public highways at speeds of over 100mph... and you're surprised when it goes a bit wrong. Astounding.

It seems a little unusual to be bringing this into play unless this "deformation" interfered in some way with steering or suspension systems. Plenty of fairings, both solo and sidecar, experience a certain amount of flex and distortion in use both from mechanical forces and aerodynamics. Yup. I'd say there is certainly a chance that fairing distortion could cause some steering issues. Even just a little nudge or stiffness in one direction at those speeds could be catastrophic. You can steer an old VW Beetle by using the flip out side windows as rudders at speed.

Yes, or wind getting under a distorted area could cause partial lift on one side affecting the landing and drift to one side.

Have you even bothered to have a look at the workmanship and design which goes into one of these outfits? It mentions that the deformation could have touched the tyre - which would potentially be a cause of the crash.

Technical officials who’d signed off the Stockton’s sidecar, before the race, had recorded that the outfit was ‘free of defects’. These amateurs………… Its hard to criticise your mates at times but mistakes have consequences. Lessons will be learned- scrutineering failure - volunteers with armbands and hi viz again. That's quite an allegation, you don't know that there was any mistake, just wild speculation as usual. Do you mean that something can't break despite being sound when examined previously? You don't know much about motorsport, engineering or metallurgy. What makes you call scrutineers amateurs? You obviously know nothing about them either. 2 4
