The place is transformed from a dull tax haven to party central for two weeks of the year - you'd have to be a complete idiot to not notice this. Pubs and restaurants are heaving, there loads going on and many business make as much that fortnight as they do the rest of the year. It's easy to say that a business relying on two weeks of the year is not the best business plan - trouble is then there'd be a lot less businesses to enjoy the rest of the year. Things are though enough as it is. Nobody is romanticising the event, but to ignore its place is the history, culture and folklore of the island is bigotry at its finest.
