Alf's hit list still has a lot of names on it.

You get the clear impression that he is working through some sort of list. At the moment I believe Cannan is committed to dealing with this professionally as someone with his background (in recruitment and HR) would. That said it does look like there is more than a hint of self preservation here. The first ones at the very top of the civil service and the DHSC and Human Resources office were presumably preemptive of actions pending or due which might make government look bad had the post holders still had jobs when charges or rulings ultimately fall. Take the liability out before it bounces back on you. You even see in the tribunal case of Kevin Kennington that Greenhow was arrogant enough to tell Kennington in writing that he had shared the findings of the independent report into his situation (known as the Roberts Report) with the Tynwald Select Committee and Julie Edge (as the whistleblowing representative) only for the tribunal to find that the Tynwald Select Committee actually had to threaten Greenhow with action in order to obtain the report. This was a report the taxpayer had paid for and which they were fully entitled to receive. But the Chief Secretary seemed to decide that the politicians weren’t entitled to see it because it was embarrassing to him and his officers.

If this is the basic level of internal corruption they are dealing with then God knows what other issues have been kept a lid on over the years. So I think you’ll find the first wave will largely be to do with liability management and face saving before he moves onto people who are just useless power crazed assholes.

A lot of 'stuff' that fell under the purview of the former Chief Secretary is now being unearthed. There will be more.

There'll be a whole generation of CS who've got out "just in time" I'd bet and are breathing sighs of relief because of it.

Do you actually believe that…

Yes. He was an absolute shithouse being able to get away with that stuff.

If it was corruption then it wouldn't have been in the public spotlight.

Incompetent, probably. Corrupt, not so much.

Once a person accepts a high end role in the CS. they have to accept that they may be named and shamed. That seems to be what is happening. However, the lower orders are not in this category, their leaving will be lower profile and that is fair even if they are deemed to be 'Bullies', they weren't paid to be fodder in this exercise .

We may not hear of these other resignations further down the line but can hope that they are going in this exercise, if rather more quietly???
