It seems that the DOI are wasting valuable fire service time by continuing to run the steam train in the current hot/dry weather. When it loses so much money in the first place, why isn't it suspended until the weather breaks?

Where's the bit that states it was caused by a train?

It just said on the news that they've actually got a fire-fighting train for these occasions. Hope it's not propelled by the Cabbage 😂

Don’t worry before long, IOMG will order a new fire fighting train, with the excuse that the current fire fighting train isn’t up to the latest standards.

I'd probably concur these are caused by the Choo-choo.   It's got rails.  It's a fucking shambles.

They also seem to now be running the filthiest cheapest coal they can find.  Last few days down the Station end of Athol St has been like Delhi on a bad day.

According to the associated picture on the MR site the firefighting is done from No 22 which according to Wiki is assigned to 'Permanent Way Duties' ie stuff like firefighting.

As opposed to No 21:

Which isn't named apparently.  (That withdrawn column is one of the funniest things on Wikipedia)
