Roger Ram
Unemployment at 0.6%. We need more people here, and soon or the place will fall apart. Its almost impossible to grow a business here with no staff available.

2112
CM Cannan has been on the NPM saying the IOM must work incredibly hard to ditch the label of tax haven. Does he know something that we don’t know, or is the UK Government planning on cutting services or provisions to the island? It doesn’t matter what CM Cannan does to dress up, the island’s reputation making people believe that the IOM isn’t a tax haven - it’s a low tax international finance centre. From the NPM - The chief minister says he'll have to work 'incredibly hard' to make sure the Isle of Man isn't labelled a 'tax haven' by the new government in the UK. The Labour Party has long warned about tackling those levying lower taxes if it returned to power. Alf Cannan was asked whether he's seen any reasons to be concerned since the election at the start of the month. He insists he's not going to be complacent about any potential threat:
Fred the shred
The Labour Party has big plans whether it can afford to follow them through that is another matter if or when they get strapped for cash then they will be looking for fresh pickings and I am sure we will not be very far down their list.

If it didn't, it would never have been tolerated.

On the one hand he is hand wringing and positively in a state of panic, thinking as to what the new Labour Government will do to Crown Dependencies, and then dick waving as to progress made, relating to the island plan. The saviour is here. It sounds a bit like Trump declaring his Presidency the best ever when he delivered basically nothing he actually claims credit for. What has Cannan achieved? I’d say absolutely nothing of note whatsoever. He’s running scared of the civil service who are now demanding pay rises he can’t afford. He’s put up taxes in a massively unpopular move. And the whole of the IOM public sector seems to have turned to shit and he’s doing absolutely nothing about it other than blaming covid. I don’t think he’s a bad person but as a Chief Minister he’s a total failure. He's like the Manager of a third rate minor league football team who says he’s going to win the premier league but fails to realize that every player he has on the field is a complete muppet who is already playing two leagues higher than they should be.
