Alf Cannan's I Have A Dream

Alfie Boy now defending the Promenade and its workmanship.

Here's a suggestion Alf - rather than defending the incompetents responsible, as your predecessors have endlessly done, doubtless at those incompetent's own expectant behest; how about parading them, stripped to their underwear, along the Promenade on a January morning, preferably during an Easterly and guided by a horse whip, so they can view said workmanship for themselves.

Utter wankers.

"Alfred Cannan said there were 'always going to be small bits and pieces' to be finished in a scheme of this size."

"An extensive refurbishment project is currently underway
along the seafront in the Island’s capital Douglas, with a
planned completion date of April 2021"

So, 2.5 years after the planned completion date there are still things to do.

Covid. It's got to be.

I have been painstakingly training an army of thousands of fleas to spell out anti-IoM Government messages on Alf Cannan's bedroom ceiling that dissipate a moment after he wakes up so he can’t be certain he saw them. It might just tip him over the edge.

Now all you need to do is find out where he's sleeping.

(Which is more that the police seem to manage).

Would it be unreasonable to suggest that the state of Govt that we actually have is the reason for these "relentless serial FOI requests", from concerned taxpayers?

It’d be fascinating to find out how many separate individuals made FOI requests. I suspect that most requests are from the same tiny handful of people who are either brave crusaders or pains in the arse, depending on your outlook.

Stu is right though. Create a situation where anyone who shows initiative will be hung out to dry, and you’ll quickly find nobody will show any initiative. It doesn’t even have to be a situation where something has gone wrong or cost money.

The promenade has been "finished" for quite a while now. Everyone here, including those from Bride and Foxdale, will have driven up and down the road a few times.

A significant amount of time and money in the prom. rework went to installing pink concrete down the middle of the road.

How many of you think that it was worth it.

[There was no question mark at the end, because I know that none of you has the vision to understand the significance of what has been achieved]

What has been achieved is truly remarkable. It's taken many years of hard work and many millions of pounds to achieve it, but finally, we have an entire two miles of promenade that make Morcombe look like Monte Carlo.

Alf has sadly been a disappointment. Bell was the pension-hunting presence with little substance, Quayle the oaf everybody knew he was but personally, I had high hopes for AC.

He came in like a new brush, binned Black then Greenhow and everybody thought, "Great, we've got somebody who's going to get a grip of the whole shitshow".

Then the shitshow got a grip of Alf. Downhill ever since. Doesn't bode well.

I see Bell is back in the IOM for Xmas. Alf put on a good performance for a few months before he was knobbled. But the CS always wins and it isn’t just the prom. The Liverpool Terminal has likewise been shrugged off. It’s only £100M and hugely over budget hardly anything to get bent out of shape about either. Ranson. Well we will learn some more of those lessons and in the meantime let’s employ another 50 HR experts to make it all even worse in the meantime. This place has totally had it. This current incarnation of Tynwald is full of some of the most useless talentless wankers we’ve ever seen.

Yes, saw Bell in the street this morning, it's a shame that nobody can confront him and ask him what his opinion is on his legacy to the Island, to include the MEA and his failure to address the PS pensions timebomb that he actually warned about in 2006, which gave him ten years to address to his departure in 2016, during which he did nada.

Alf was clearly dangerous to some and needed to be reined in ASAP, fortunately it's been relatively easy and successful which gives an indication as to where the power lies. Shame that a guy who would have been selected for aptitude and training by the British Army in leadership qualities has apparently succumbed so quickly.

Talentless wankers? Well, that's just how we like them, not too many questions asked, easily tamed and led and quickly educated in the benefits of life if you don't rock the boats. Lots of examples in past and present. Worms can turn amazingly quickly if they're fed the right leaf mould.
