A day to get out the bad news, when you’re unlikely to be questioned. The NPMs lead story is the MDC so far costing over £450,000.

Hang on, you were doing so well in explaining your acronyms for a time. You seem to have slipped into your old annoying bad habits.

“NPM “ national people’s mouthpiece?  Manx Radio? Or Manx Press?

I'd imagine they have raised loans, guaranteed by the Treasury, to provide the cash flow for this development. Probably need to see a Balance Sheet, rather than a Profit and Loss account to get a proper picture.

At the end of the day, once they start (hopefully) to produce some income, from sales or rental income, they will be able to cook the books, by showing whatever value they, and Treasury, like on the property assets that Government have given to them.

Ah the old Donald Trump Development Corp trick, classic

I have had a quick browse through the Christmas miracle report and came away feeling unconvinced. For instance, they say that there were 1,500 new jobs, but there were only 700 additional new employees. Does this mean that 800 new jobs were created but remain unfilled? If that is the case, then, in theory, the number of vacancies should have increased by 800. But, according to the same document, the number of job vacancies listed at the Job Centre remains at around 1,300. So, no change there. Perhaps the 800 unfilled new jobs have been offset by and equal number of existing jobs being withdrawn from the market without being filled? IMHO, the key numbers do not ‘gel’.

To make this report more meaningful, IMHO, they should have provided some clues about sectors (public, private) and the professions where these new jobs and new appointments were created. What type of jobs and where are they, e.g., are they mainly high-paid full-time jobs in the e-gambling and finance sectors, or are they poorly paid part-time jobs in the hospitality sector? They should have been able to say how many of these jobs were created in education, health…they should also have said how many of these jobs were enabled by work permits, etc, etc, etc.

IMHO, in its present form, the report is another case of marketing style over substance. If the Government is confident in their statements, surely, they can also provide some substantive detail about how and where the good news is happening.

Agreed. Meaningless bollocks. And, they don't even take account of the modern slaves.

the same for planning permission. It's a known fact developers like to bank their approvals, so that's a pointless statistic. The ratio of applications approved to followed through to development is the only way of telling if the 'relaxation s' and various brownfield and other bribes are working.

Emperor Alf - how will I know my policies are working. Some performance indicators perhaps!

CS Sith Lord - well we could but that would be risky sire. How about we have an ever evolving plan, don't measure anything, and instead provide Googled estimates against some randomly selected and not at all interconnected characteristics. And we never report on the same thing twice?

That way the MHKs will think we are doing something other than paying consultants to produce reports for us to manipulate if we don't like their answers.

What's that? Oh yes Sire, we can do pie charts and graphs.

Emperor Alf - gooood gooooood.

“Accordingly, all Members are urged to leave aside their own interests, take an objective look at what is genuinely in the best interest of the Island and vote to provide the Assembly with the opportunity to elect an alternative leader.”

If only it was in the isle of man this statement was being expressed

What difference would it make?

What would people expect to realistically happen or be better ?

Pointless excercise unless you have someone to replace him with superior knowledge and leadership qualities which seem to be lacking in the present regime.

The awful part is that it could be worse! Allinson would be more of the same, imagine Daphne with the keys to the treasury? We would be taking horse trams to town and poor people would be banned from driving completely

A while ago (unfortunately I cannot find the quote) whilst discussing EVs on the Isle of Man, Allinson said that he would ban the importation of second-hand ICE cars to the island - thus ensuring that poor people would not be tempted to buy a cheap ICE car.

So his election statement would be - "Poor people? Let them eat cake and walk".

Ready for me to be anointed Benevolent Dictator for Life yet? It’s the only answer. A mix of Michael Corleone and Tony Soprano. Some disagreeable posters on here might go…missing though.
