"Emergency services called more than 2,000 times across December"

WTF? Does that mean 1 in 6 adults on the island are dialling 999 each year?

Non-999 calls December 16,000?

Crime free island?

What's going on?

It's the regular 'we're very busy looking after you' distraction media release.

Hardly, the 4 idiots from down south with own agenda plus 2 others so 18 v 6

The 4 idiots are wanting to be seen by their electorate as opposing the removal of a public amenity on their collective patch. That electorate will be holding them to account at the next election and will have little interest in the financial excuses from central Govt, i.e. they will be expecting the 4 idiots to put up a fight and see the amenity retained.

This will not be the last amenity to be cut as the purse strings tighten, it will be interesting to see how many other MHKs put up resistance when it's the turn of their areas to feel the chop. After all, we need another £3M spending on Govt HR now.

Steady on now. The Voice of Insanity will be along in a second to defend it and tell us how indispensable the position actually is.

Who has previously been handling these responsibilities, somebody must have been doing it up to now so why do we need a newly created role, other than empire expansion?

Once again I see the expression "global stage". It's at least partly delusional.

To be honest I'd say a Director of Marketing is a position that is actually required.  If this is a new role, who the hell has been directing any of the marketing work done by the Govt previously?

Although, a decent Director of Marketing in the Private Sector would probably expect more money than that.

Come on Alfie for f*#€$sake grow a pair, we have very little money. Your masterplan is a master%÷£€ up and ain't going to work, we need meaningful cuts not another snout in the trough. No doubt you and your own will be able to survive comfortably, or if worse comes to worse emigrate to Esex's to hobknob with the other uber rich living out your 4 score and ten in that little 5 bedroom cottage. Which you will purchase(if you already do not own) off the backs of the Manx taxpayer. Maybe next to (steady) Eddy teare a man whom I really despise with his its not really our money. Little prick steady hand on the tiller, more likely smouzing island developers.

Coffee time

When will it stop.

Soon, if someone doesn't get struck with a reality stick. It is about now we depend on the backbenchers and others to start making waves ! I won't hold my breath.

No he won’t.

Or at least not until the questions in your second paragraph have been satisfactorily answered.

Outsourced, which has now become too expensive? Or position created for a mate (whether it's required or not)?

Yes, you can't help feeling that if the Manx tourism industry has not had a Marketing Director till now, what on earth has the DfE been doing in what is supposed to be one of its main activities.  And indeed what all the other people employed in the Department have been getting up to.  Possibly a new position has been created for whoever did the job previously (under whatever title) and they have been promoted to that so as to avoid the possibility of even the slightest contact with the actual public.

Of course when you look at the job description it's business buzzwords turned up to 11:

Visit Isle of Man has embarked on a change in culture to facilitate the Island to truly compete as a tourism destination on a global stage. This is an exciting time to join the Agency whilst we work towards our targets and you will play a key role in executing this by being the enabling force for delivery and the essential successful implementer of the ‘Our Island, Our Future’ Visitor Economy Strategy 2022-2032.

We are looking for someone who is a go-getter, enjoys working in a proactive team in a fast-paced environment and who is a great people person with excellent communication skills.

This is not a typical desk-based, 9 to 5 role! You will be out in the tourism sector on the Island, hosting journalists, creating content and articulating the Island’s culture and stories. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you!

You'll notice that any actual knowledge of tourism on the Island or indeed anywhere else is not required.

The salary does seem low for a proper Marketing Director and no one sane would apply for a job whose description includes exclamation marks.  But in reality it sounds like just another mid-range role at the DfE bullshit production facility.

Whoever wrote that should probably apply for the position!
