It boggles the mind how many directors and heads of marketing we need in government.  Did we try marketing as a shared function and it failed?

Or is this one 'arms length '?

Digital isle of man seems to only employ directors and managers. Some very strange job titles, is 'smart island manager ' a real job?

So that's where Ann Corlett whiles away her hours. Perhaps she would like to make a public statement in Tynwald/Keys as to exactly what of a tangible nature this Department full of high flyers is actually achieving.

Seems unlikely given the recruitment seems to be outsourced to Saxton Bampfylde who describe themselves as "a global, values-driven leadership advisory firm".  Which presumably means we should expect another identikit bullshit merchant, only really skilled at marketing themselves.

To be fair to MNH the job description does include fundraising and you could argue that the job should pay for itself if it's done right.  And unfortunately external funding bodies and other groups that have to be engaged with (including the rest of the civil service) often expect someone who will talk the management gobbledegook talk to deal with.  Which is depressing.

To be fair I'd agree that MNH and IOM Tourism would need to have different Heads of Marketing.  For one they are completely different entities and secondly if the MNH bod was doing the Tourism, it would just be about vikings, castles and trams.

Sounds better than cruises ship and tax avoidance!

Depends.   Do they want a ‘smart island’ manager; or a ‘smart’ island manager?

I bet they don't come cheaply.

Only the best for IOM Government.

After years of scratching my head at these seemingly ridiculous and pointless job creation schemes that only cost us more money, and build liabilities for the future, I'm coming to the conclusion that they can't possibly be, in fact nobody could be, quite this stupid. They must know something that none of us do about the future funding of the Island. It's the only explanation.

People still don't know where the Isle of Man is.

I think lots do, but only a small percentage of them have any reason to come here, it's finance, motorbikes or a bit of scenery with the odd train/tram. We need a new unique attraction.

I suggest 14 day tours of our civil service with detailed information on numbers and provenly productive activities on the way round.

At least we could be an 'add-on' for some of the millions of visitors who go to the Lake District every year.

I remember when MNH was going to concentrate on the Scandinavian countries and have a Viking focus. What happened to that?  How many Swedes and Norwegians came?

We're not even on the map.

You mean to say you have forgotten about the Accelerator IoT (internet of things) programme she was responsible for (her blurb)? Yeah, me too.
