That would be the guess.  Cannan doesn't really want anyone who disagrees with him and his policy of just doing whatever he's told by the civil service.  He's not really bright enough to argue with anyone and lacks the patience to try.

Me too.did construction there and the trenches were permanently water-logged it were like being at the beach it were.

Genuine question.

For what purpose were you digging trenches for construction on a privately owned bit of land that currently has no buildings on it?

It seems there is a campaign in Ramsey to prevent planning permission being granted, to build a housing estate on a nature reserve.

There is indeed, it has been started by leader of the Green Party, Lamara Craine (also a Ramsey Commissioner) who has instigated a FB petition. It is proposed to build it on the Poyll Dhooie reserve area which is part of the Auldyn floodplain bordering the Sulby River where it flows into Ramsey.

I think we can say that Alf’s dream has had the curtains opened on it and the alarm clock is ringing. In the light of day and real life he has to realise that he has been unable to do anything but maintain growth in expenditure, bullshit about real failures and keep steering a course towards financial ruin.

There is.  Which is very misleading because there is no nature reserve on the private land the owners want to build on.

But what if there is a small colony of rare Peruvian slugs that nest there and the detrimental effect on the world if they are made extinct? If there's a chance of that, they shouldn't be built.
