Alf Cannan's I Have A Dream

Rob Callister now calling for Alf’s resignation but in the usual cowardly way by asking people on Facebook what they think of the Chief Minister. The time to call for a vote of no confidence was yesterday. Have a revolt over the budget and get a load of dissenting MHKs to call a vote of no confidence in Alf and his economic plan. Not wake up the next day, having voted for the budget, and then make a suggestion that there is no confidence in Alf. If you have no confidence in him why the hell did you vote for his budget less than 24 hours ago.

Callister is a feeble never has been but an eternal wannabe who hasn’t got the guts to stand up and be counted about anything. MHK material, apparently.

Sadly, this is not the same Alf C who came in, in 2021 like a stiff new brush. Getting rid of Black and then Greenhow and some of his public statements suggested that he had some mettle and gave hope but it would appear that the behemoth now has him on the ropes.

Clearly the culture that it was hoped that would exit with Greenhow still exists which makes one wonder who is pulling the strings now?

The 'opposition' is made of characters who, you could argue haven't achieved much in their non political life. Being elected has given status and financial security.

It's highly improbable that any of them have the nerve to call a realistic challenge, let alone unify a core of dissenters.

Cannan got rid of some of the old apparatchiks and replaced them with ‘his’ apparatchiks – a classic ‘new broom’ strategy – the new leader gets loyalty, there is the appearance of change, but in reality, nothing actually changes. He is obsessed with the Island’s Plan (largely written for him by a bunch of consultants). But to what extent he or any of his Ministers, let alone backbenchers and MLCs, endorse or even understand this Plan? What became very clear at the last two Government Conferences is that he does not like dissent. E.g., he got tetchy when the questions/ issues broached by the audience with various Government spokespeople were even mildly probing (mind you, Hooper and Dr Allinson came across as smug). If Cannan behaved like this ‘in the office’, then surely the atmosphere in CoMin must be toxic.

If the government’s decision-making process is handicapped by a “my way or the highway” code of leadership, then it is the public who ultimately suffer the consequences of poorly thought-through, poorly executed, minimally accountable government strategy/ policies.

I'm not quite sure when the penny will drop for the majority on here who actually believe individually elected MHK's can reform Government or effect change within the civil service.

It would need at least 13 candidates all standing on the same policies and manifestos to be returned at the next election who have the cajones and will to begin the process of shrinking the monster and addressing the real issues of tax, property prices, pensions, travel, front line services, non-culpability ... etc etc, etc.

Someone needs to begin the process of pulling a body of men & women together with the sole objective of attempting to save this Island whilst there is still time.

Reportedly he started off in favour of Cannan & the budget but by the time he was on page 4 of his ramblings he had changed his mind and now wants to see him despatched.

Alf is just  running about like a headless chicken.  He has no clue. no real direction and NOT ONE CARE for anyone other than himself.  END OF.

Anyone else left in the government either follow him like a sheep or have no real substance, or balls, to do anything about it for fear of losing their bank balance.

Only Chris Thomas could gather enough support to make a challenge, you’ve got the 4 southern, 2 Onchan plus Thomas, Wannenburgh, Christian so 9 only needs another 4 to join in to oust Alf, then Allison & JPW will stand
