EVRI will be out of business then as they are the company who offer zero hours contracts, pay on delivery, no sick pay, no holidays etc and compete against businesses who pay staff fair wages, pensions, sick pay etc .

Cowley Groves on Linkedin.

112 rental enquiries for just 3 new rental listings this week.

Again, where are all these new residents going to live initially Alf?

You can see on Facebook etc. that many are struggling to find anywhere to live, both locals and new arrivals.

There's also 900 on the waiting lists for social housing and sheltered accommodation.

Affordable homes/rents was the main priority on most manifestos last time, and nothing has been achieved, yet they keep going on about raising the population.

The infrastructure can't cope already (housing, health services, dentistry etc.). The whole Government apparatus here is just one huge self-delusional, grasping entity, that will do anything to maintain its own inefficient, uneconomic and ineffective bloated existence.

They can’t get rental listings it doesn’t necessarily mean that there is no rental stock for people moving over. Why on earth would any landlord go to Cowley Groves or any other agent to pay commission to rent their house out when they can put the same rental on Facebook and have it rented out in 24 hours as there is so much demand. Nobody in their right mind would pay fees for basically nothing when the underlying demand is so huge.

Some of the landlords might not live here, or be old/disabled, some tenants are an absolute nightmare to deal with and maintenance can be tricky if you're not hands-on.  Some people have little interest in managing their properties, as it can be quite intensive.  Horses for courses really.  I rented for many years and had a mixture of private landlords and management agents to deal with.

I agree but I’d wager the reason why they have no rental stock with agents is largely unless you don’t live here which creates complications in managing a property you can rent a house out in less than 48 hours with minimal effort and minimal marketing and do most of the rest yourself. Fistard, Dandara, Arragon (and on a smaller level Church St) all mine all their own rentals through their own websites for the multiple hundreds of units they have. Why would any of them go to CG or Deanwoods etc and pay fees for money for old rope? Same with small private landlords. Demand outstrips supply so you don’t need to pay an agent for anything as you’ll get the enquiries anyway if you’re active online.

The developers of Poyll Dooey in the North of the Island have been having a moan at the planning system. Not exactly going to endear themselves and win any fans. From the NPM -

Government says changes are underway

A housing developer says the Island's planning system is "a bit of a state".

Sulby Riverside Limited wants to build 200 homes and a pub at Ballachrink in Ramsey, but says progress has been slow.

Concerns about the impact on the salt marshes at the Poyll Dooey Nature Reserve have also been partly to blame.

Josh Church is the Project Director and says his team would be reluctant to work on the Isle of Man again after their experience so far:

Planning laws fall into the remit of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture.

Its minister is Clare Barber, and Amy Griffiths asked her whether she believes the currents laws are inhibitive to the growth of the Island:

Not a major fan of that proposed development, but they're absolutely right to attack the planning laws, some bonkers decisions come out of that department, but more frequently bafflingly petty ones. Anti-progress nonsense at times.

I agree.  The laws need changing, but not to accommodate arsey property developers.

Very valid arguments and don’t think it will change any views as the NIMBYs will be against for any reason they can think of.

So a person resigns, and they go to many pains to say that this does not involve 'redundancy'.

https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/no-redundancy-made-within-audiology-service-in-north-says-manx-care/

Yet, after an assessment, the job itself becomes a redundant post, and no one will take this person's place.

Just imagine how many redundant posts actually exist across government (public and civil services), if they had the guts to look and assess.

It is an exercise that needs to be done now, and should have been done in 2006 with the first 'Scope and size of government' report.

Not doing it is gutless, clueless and costing us many tens of £millions every single year.
