I don’t see why - as The Phantom said above nobody is responsible for what happened 30/40 years ago when the industry wasn’t regulated and they were at school and there were no rules and regulations for anything. If he has a claim proving it is likely going to be next to possible. Due to GDPR almost files over 6 years old have probably now been destroyed anyway and little is likely to be found unless he can provide copies.

When the boy started looking into this, some of the Athol Street kids on the block who were involved were knocking about larger than life itself. One or two have copped their whack, true enough but some remain.

The money has not disappeared into thin air though, has it. Oh no. That wasn't destroyed after 6 years was it.

The money has disappeared though and applying to a court to have all the documents examined (if they exist) will be prohibitive. It’s 1980s tax planning, give all your money to some dodgy fucker in the IOM who promises you that your grandkids will receive millions before he shreds all documentary evidence that the transfer ever took place.

Reminds me of the [true] story about a wealthy American that came to the Isle of Man to secure (and hide) his many $millions. The advocate did whatever he had to do and provided a signed document to that affect. Fast forward a few years and the advocate reaches the top of the Manx legal system and, the yank dies.

The man's wife finds the document and approaches someone on the Isle of Man to retrieve the funds. But the signee denies the document has his signature on it, and denies all knowledge. Wife instructs the representative to take the matter to the highest court to be heard in front of the top deemster.

I forget how the story ends. I think it er, ended there.

Row over money according to IOMToday broken up by other onlookers, probably grossly over exaggerated but heigh ho it made a headline on a slow day.

Was this supposed to be in the NSC thread?

I think that's a separate story.

This one was about a fella Paul Moulton did an interview with and he was saying there had been an actual murder. Goes back a few years.

You’re confusing the NSC spa alleged head held under water story and  this story about a solicitor who was murdered in Surbiton in 1988, leaving a complicated financial mess in the IoM.

However, you’re correct about this one being a row about money. £3million of it.

Of course the legal fees are now £3million.

The judgment says that they were £1.3 million, over 33 years, and they are taken into account in arriving at the £3m. Likewise that figure is arrived at after paying English tax and penalties for the evasion, in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s by the late Mr Durrant.

As murky as it gets and the big boys come out smelling like Manx mountain fresh Fuschia.
