So the usual Pro Sefton doesn't really work here? Isn' t there Dutch involvement in this site?

Look at where the Sea Terminal currently is... emesde
The site was acquired by Middlemarch from the Government. Middlemarch is a subsidiary of Auldyn. Auldyn is a major shareholder in the Sefton Group. Auldyn construction is part of the Colas group. Edited August 4, 2022 by emesde

I did believe it was connected with Colas but maybe not. I'm sure someone will correct if this if wrong.
NoTailT
The management at the Palace have been talking about the casino moving for the last 12+ months. Whilst I'm inclined to say it's never gonna happen, I'd give it a higher probability than initially. Boo Gay'n
One thing that struck me when looking at the architects' drawings is that the proposed building is staggeringly ugly. While we need new investments, shouldn't aesthetics come into the equation too?

code99
The world, Europe in particular, is about to enter into a severe recession, business travel has already been drastically curtailed because of new technologies (such as Zoom), the Covid pandemic, reduced flights due to staff shortages at airlines and airports, and also climate change concerns. So, does the IOM really need another business ‘conference facility’ (there is already one at Mount Murray). And do we really need a ‘Casino’ when punters can get better odds and more variety on the Internet? The only viable part of this plan is a multistorey carpark, everything else will ultimately cost taxpayers money. Is this 'white elephant' proposal really acceptable, given the state of public finances? As much as the Palace Hotel building is a bit delipidated and in need of constant maintenance, a lot of tourists who stay there actually love its location and the splendid sea views they get from their windows and also the general ‘peaceful’ ambience of the place. The Palace Hotel is not broken yet, so why not keep extending its useful life as long as possible? I would rather they invest my taxes in social housing, or similar, so that the Island can attract and retain essential staff like doctors and nurses, not the dream about the possible (uncertain) windfalls that could come from high-rollers. The MDC in its current publicly unaccountable set-up should not be allowed to see the light of day, especially without proper review and scrutiny. Individual members of the public are struggling to get GP appointments, but the MDC will be allowed to trash a lot of taxpayers’ cash on yet another ‘white elephant’ project.

The Palace is in need of demolition to be fair. This isn't a MDC development, they've only been 'consulted' by developers.
jackwhite
Not convinced we 'need' a new casino but I do think it will be popular. We're still seeing a reasonable amount of incoming companies and employees from the likes of China. These HNW individuals do like a casino and make use of it. The Palace isn't the prettiest building and, from what I've been told, it would be redeveloped in the event of this going ahead. What it will be I have no idea. That said I still don't see this ever happening.
Mistercee
A fairly recently incorporated company with an address at what appears to be a CSP is Albert Street with designs by a UK based architectural practice and part of Sefton Group as an "anchor tenant?? Until someone puts their head above the parapet and confirms who is actually behind this and that they have financing in place it will be regarded as yet another "pie in the sky" dream. I do not think the construction of a multi storey car park would be financially viable - would probably cost in the order of £15k per space even as an add on to the casino/leisure centre. Anchors go to the bottom - as we have found many times!!
