They have done nothing, apart from deferring electricity price increases, to help people on the living wage who will be in fuel poverty. Yet our politicians can find an extra £30m for the Lpool Landing Stage, extra money for the promenade works, money for climate change etc. The idea that thousands of economically active people will come to live and work in the IOM as it accelerates towards complete collapse is laughable. This is the thing - KPMG have said that population may increase if there is significant investment in climate change response and green digital infrastructure It is unlikely to increase until that happens
NoTailT
Something that occurred to me this morning: I wonder is Gov have put a pause on the efforts to reclaim COVID-19 scheme monies?

He seems to be very quiet on social media at the moment.
BriT
I wonder how many billions have been spent to kick this lockdown mess 2 years down the line? So people who were put on furlough 2 years ago will now find that their employers are folding anyway after they’ve been pissed about and bought off for the last two years about things recovering https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62688692
2112
The NPM has published an IOMG press release telling the nation that wages are higher on the IOM than the UK. 0.3% higher than the UK, but the IOM is more expensive to live. Are they going to use these statistics to entice new people to relocate? There could be an erosion of standards of living, especially if businesses close down due to rising costs.

Here is a prediction for you. The IOM labour shortage will go away by Christmas. It will go away as businesses shut as they can’t afford to carry on and people will be laid off and unemployment rates will go up. The exact same will be happening in the UK. Most of hospitality and retail runs on tight margins and this is already pushing businesses over the edge. Directors have to be responsible too and they can’t continue trading knowing that they might not be able to cover their liabilities so many will prudently have to wind up in an orderly way over the next few months to protect themselves. The hospitality industry especially has had the worst time ever since lockdowns were imposed and actually all we have done pumping billions and billions into covid support is kick the can down the road 24 months before the inevitable job losses, business failures, and stock market falls occur. From an economic standpoint point the whole of the last 2 years has largely been a complete waste of everyone’s time and money.

Unemployment will be up in the next few months as a variety of businesses close. Plus there will be demands for government to support this and support that because we set a precedent of randomly handing out cash over the pandemic.
