Numbnuts
It's mind blowing over here how incestous the whole setup is . The ordinary person in the street has no chance . The powers that be are so wrapped up in their world theres no chance of they understanding what issues the plebs have . 1

Civil Servants and Politicos will do whatever they want to do irrespective of views, outcomes or opinions. In many cases the decision has been made, this is merely lip service or PR stunts. I think a few people felt cheated. They took a few hours out of their day to attend and they made no attempt to answer the questions they asked.

A public consultation about tinkering with our taxation system is currently underway - this has been published on the government's website somewhere and the deadline for public feedback is an early October. One of the options they are considering is to levy NI on non-employment income such as dividends and interest. At the conference one gentleman stood up and said that the fact that the IOMG are even 'considering' such an initiative was sufficient for him to already redivert some of his income from the Island. There was a quiet murmur around the room that any 'unfavourable' tax changes will make the IOM increasingly less attractive for businesses and presumably also individuals. This message needs to be heard 'loud and clear'. Yes, there are many great things about the Island e.g., 'personal safety', but the most important issue for business people is tax, it seems. Lawrie having a pop at second income earners on Twitter. Despite @TheTeapot - who is a double income earner - correcting Mr Hooper's comments from real world practical experience, the Minister seems unable to accept that ITD could possibly be so hard to deal with. He needs to now remember that he is the Minister for Enterprise and flirting stupid Tweets like this out there is not good. Any murmuring of unfavourable tax structure changes will get people moving away from the Island before it becomes a risk to them. Someone should just take control of his Twitter for him, he seems to be regularly making a tit of himself on it.

Can't really blame him, or anyone else for considering it. Show stopper.
Non-Believer
There's a watershed approaching here. Courtesy of external pressures and internal policies and failings, the Island's finances are in shit order. Therefore, people are being asked to pay a bit more, including those who are more than able to. Let's see now who has loyalty to the Island whose financial advantages they have availed themselves of...

Apple
In fairness they should if possible the conference should have been postponed. The pace of change is too rapid with world and social events for the Government to really keep ahead of. Knowing that the UK were going to have to make some dramatic gestures following the PM leadership contest regarding tax, borrowing, defence spending, cost of living support, energy costs support etc then it may well have been useful to assess the impact of their changes first. Isn't that what the IOM used to be good at - letting them do it first and adopting best practices when the lessons had been learnt ?

It depends how you look at it. They still haven't got auto-enrolment for pensions and UK did that years ago.
