Just to be clear then, if its a news story that has been on Manx radio, it can't be mentioned in the Manx Radio thread. If it is another story that is not related to Manx Radio that we aren't sure has been mentioned on Manx radio, then it can be added to the Manx Radio thread? The comment was related to the bias on MR shown by Andy Wint on certain questions. A few have complained about that. So that's about Manx Radio. This thread covers about 10 different topics now, people typing here because they heard something on MR (often when there's already an existing topic about such). So it's got screwed up. Just trying to get it back on track.

Dirty Buggane
Just listening to Beaker(Alinson) on the wireless, excuse after excuse its not our fault. Gov cutting back since 2008, did the civil service/government not get the memo. How is it good to give money to help developers to build houses/flats locals can not afford. Sorry but the man is an incompetent dick. People of Ramsey do the right thing at the next election

Sorry but the man is an incompetent dick. People of Ramsey do the right thing at the next election There was no cutting back since 2008 which was circa the VAT clawback. Allan Bell, in particular, dismissed it saying that, "1000s would be thrown out of work". What has happened is that reserves have been consistently and increasingly used since 2011 to close shortfalls. Unfortunately what has simultaneously occurred is that known liabilities which had remained unaddressed came to the fore and for some reason, yet to be fully explained, Govt numbers have been allowed to grow inexorably adding a huge burden to the already largely unaffordable PS wage bill. Such has been the effect of the above two factors, the use of those now shrinking reserves is no longer sufficient to cover the gaps and there has now had to be additional big rises in taxation and charges to make ends meet. This will not end anytime soon as nobody in the elected ranks appears to want to face reality and address the how's and why's. 5

Anyone
Bit unfair really. There are so many problems facing all western nations at the moment that means being a politician is just a hiding to nothing. They don’t have a magic wand. If we all want the public services we demand on this Island then the only way to do that is a radical overhaul of our tax system. Ergo CGT , IHT and proper progressive tax rates. The problem with progressive tax rates in a small Island is of course a very small number of high earners to make much of a difference. And they might leave.

Albert Tatlock
Manx Radio are running a survey at the moment - good chance to push for better news and current affairs coverage - if you want to fill one in. Hard to find if it doesn't automatically pop up: https://www.manxradio.com/community/what-matters-most/
GreyWolf
The mannin line is scheduled for an hour but by the time you’ve had the news and Wint talking nonsense you almost on the way to halftime, then it’s a load of adverts and now they’ve chopped of 5 mins at the end for those archive segments ( bung that onto Christy’s or BrIndleys program) the show is getting shorter by stealth and it’s not due to a lack of callers or especially texts which a lot of the time are ignored.
Brian333
How much is it costing the Manx tax payer to keep the Manx Radio AM channel going? All over the UK they are being turned off. MR boss, also a Radio Caroline DJ, will not be looking for a turn off anytime soon as he relives the pirate radio days most weekends. Manx Radio must have hardly any listeners left of 1368 as it seems it’s always being handed over to the anoraks to play the old 45s. Maybe the tourist board should pick up the tab although I can’t image many people coming to the Island just from their broadcasts.

I know the Island has some history with the original Radio Caroline but their continued obsession with it seems strange.
Dirty Buggane
Listening to the wireless and it appears we have hired(no renumeration package mentioned, so must be eye watering and will have the locals doing the Rumple Stiltskin jig from Shrek) the person who brought us the euro vision shit show from Liverpool to bring in visitors. Why they think this person has any ability to do this is yet to be seen, as the euro had multi coverage in many countries and Liverpool was always going to be a success as people showed their support for the Ukraine. Selling a slice of the good life on the Isle Of Man is going to be a whole bigger problem. Is this just like the airport asshole Sphink's ? all mouth and no trousers, the CS blinded by the showbiz glamour and glitz, sequins and the such. Can not wait to see how this shit show works out as another person wanders off into the sunset with their shoulders gently jiggling as the laugh all the way to the bank, and if the past is anything to go on a generous pension to look forward to.
