Lord of Mann

OK, use a different term than 'head of state'.  What do you see replacing the Lord of Mann?  Just about every country, barring Somalia, I think, is a recognised state with a head. Ours is the Queen (now King) but we happen to call her Lord of Mann. We are not a state in our own right but part of one which leads to the same end -  the Crown, although that is a bit of a funny thing not really just the monarch.

If you want to cut that then you can only be talking about independence.

I don't understand your argument, unless you are talking about the whole United Kingdom.

Might be a role for a retiring first deemster - T. William Cain would have done the job admirably - but the only possibility is probably joining with a newly independent Scotland and the ROI to form some sort of gaelic federation where a president might be elected as a head of state for all

But how will that work even if T W Cain, who is likely elsewhere? He would have had to deal with the Lord of Mann, anyway.

We are a Crown Dependency, that's it.  To change that is to change our entire constitutional position.  That is my point really.

I'm not going there.

Suffice to say, he's not had it easy (cue posts about how he has three houses) emotionally. I'm still pissed off with Camlilla ( and him and his mum) but Camilla has probably done more to support and love him than anyone else has been able to do. I'm holding out hope for a new, improved Charles to take over as King. I hope he surprises us.

He'll always be eccentric, but he's funny and kind and cares about the world and it's people. It's not a bad start,

TBH  I think you need to look at all the 'inconvenient' royal relationships.  They are all strewn with not matching what was expected and complete disasters not long thereafter.

Princess Margaret, Charles and Camilla (way before Diana),  even Edward and Mrs Simpson.  It was still a time of strategic marriages rather than marriages of love. I think we can all remember how Di was viewed as being  suitable breeding stock without a 'history'.  Then, when they realised it was no longer sustainable  we ended up with a newly released group of royals marrying from choice (Fergie and Andrew) without having had that bit of socialisation perfected.

It has been a very dysfunctional set up for centuries from that point of view.

So he should be up to the job after the longest apprenticeship ever.

My particular favourite was that half-wit Allinson, a trained medical doctor, describing the death of a 96 year old woman in failing health as "an awful shock".

25%. That’s the approximate chance of dying in the next year if you happen to be 96.  So when you look at it that way it’s not a shock really. But we don’t look at it like an actuary does - I might, but I’m not normal. Most people are more likely to feel that for the 20000 days or so that they’ve been alive, Queen Elizabeth was The Queen. And suddenly she’s not. Hence it’s a shock.

Alex is not a half-wit. I know him quite well and he’s at least a three-quarters wit 😉

Absolutely. I understand how it happened and that there had been many more instances just like it. I'm not really pissed off with Camila. :)

I am not pissed off with any of them, on that score really.  Like I said, up until recently they were all strategic alliances and that quickly unravelled.  Some found true love,  most didn't which perhaps led to an acceptance of affairs as 'normal' and the kind of distorted morality we have been critical of.

Although having stated his terrible shock at the death of a 96 year old woman, he then felt the need to reassure the people that their currency and stamps would still be valid.

If he's not a half-wit he's a condescending bugger, that's for sure.

Or he could just be extremely shy and affected brought on by his upbringing.

What he does next is imperative to how the public will see him from after the funeral.  His mum's just died and everyone is supporting him. If you're right, well, I could imagine a scenario where that might not go too well for him.

His mum just died and everyone is looking at him.

it so screwed up It is insane.

Let the man grieve fgs
