This whole thing about years racking up debt applies to absolutely everyone who has done a degree. It’s not specific to teachers at all. Most accountants will also have done a degree and you probably want to to some research on starting pay for junior accountants before you trot out the same old tired arguments. We get it - you’ve got a degree woo hoo! That was your choice.

That's why you can get bursaries to be a teacher, not many accountant bursaries led by the Government. https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/funding-and-support/scholarships-and-bursaries Only takes a 2:2 for the 25k. Plenty of people manage on less. I would actually go as far as to say that anyone on a teachers wage who iis dependant on a food bank doesn’t have the necessary life skills to be teaching our kids. Are you for real? You’re having a laugh, right? In the UK - nurses, teachers, i.e. people who are considered to be middle class, have already been frequenting foodbanks; not because they’re poor at budgeting, but because the cost of their essentials has become horrendous. Rents alone are so high that many millions of people don’t have much money left over to pay for other things. Unfortunately, the Island is heading in that direction too. Just wait until base interest rate will get to 6% (as the City boys and girls are predicting) and gas bills start surging and property repossessions start kicking in. Then we shall see how many more clients foodbanks will acquire and what type of clientele they will be.

The issues you are expecting will impact far more than just teachers (this is the bit teachers seem to struggle with) The fact remains that any teacher using a food bank now, 3 months ago or 6 months ago can’t manage their finances. If people on 25k or more have to resort to food banks in a few months then the government have a much bigger issue than teachers pay to deal with and as stated previously will have to do something to help everyone.

Because until we have genuinely affordable housing, for many we are not an attractive proposition. Won’t they still all be very busy at 4pm doing their jobs? 4pm doesn’t seem like long to finish your days work in Ramsey or Peel and travel to Douglas Surely this stuff should be in their own time? Its little things like this that in my view show a lack of awareness. Do it at 7pm in a neutral paid for venue

Before you get all snooty the candidates all have good A level grades and could easily go to University. 3

Strike action is the only way forward now. Bring it on and see how much of the public still struggling to hold down jobs after lockdown give a shit about your greedy requests. Asthehills
Is this a good start from Balla to set some boundaries and hopefully make teachers working days more palatable? It seems like a good start to me and shows that not everything needs to be about more money. If they want better working conditions it sounds like they have a new Headteacher who is prepared to try and improve their working day.
