I don’t need to read the response or your key take always because all I’m saying was that they jailed loads of people anyway. It’s not hard to assume their job would have been made 10 x worse if a large chunk of the population had no money to live on and no job to perform. That’s why they had no option but to pay out covid support.

I welcome a challenge to my views.  The Government, in facts Governments all around the world, were faced with a choice of doing nothing and letting COVID-19 go through the population or introducing various forms of lockdowns to reduce the spread.

So when someone starts using phrases such as "lockdown politics" on a thread about teachers pay I am immediately sceptical of what they say. 

COVID-19 happened, lockdown happened and people were provided with some support to get through what was, we hope, a once in a lifetime event.

I prefer the course of action taken, particularly here on the Island, to the alternative of letting that virus run rampant through society and the loss of life that would have followed.

You seem to treat the idea of people getting arrested for breaking the law as some sort of shocking thing.

Most know the quote to the effect that society is a few square meals away from anarchy.

However, I'm not sure how it relates back to teaching.

Maybe the teachers are overworked for the packages they receive, and therefore can't teach beloved Jimmy and Timmy as effectively.

They should strike or something for better pay/conditions.

Not too bad when compared to UK figures which remove private schools and include all publicly funded schools such as specialist provision schools.

 

Or if you want to take your figures at face value... Look what happens when all of the talented teachers leave the IOM due to not being able to afford to live. Remember the schools sending year groups home before the summer? That's because all of the good teachers were f'ing off to Dubai and Saudi. Much better pay and benefits there.

I watched the teachers union rep on North West Tonight. She basically said that the current situation is all the fault of the government. If they had caved in to the union's demands then none of the current ructions would have happened.

In other words completely taking the piss and totally ignoring her part in it.
