Good job the barristers etc didn't get their money by striking and threatening the public services. 🤫

What did they manage to obtain - was it a 15% increase ?

The barristers was about the going rate for legal aid cases. Most barristers can pick and choose the work they do. They just chose not to do legal aid work.

No. The company has made profits over the last few years which have been removed from the business instead of reinvested. The greedy people who wish to continue profiting have attempted to force changes on the workers resulting in a worse job with worse conditions and worse pay but at the same time have managed to convince people like yourself that it is the fault of the 'greedy workers'. It is not a new story, we see it every time a service is removed from public ownership and put into the hands of hedge funds. Wake up.

Exactly this. Not only is it the workers that get shafted but the public end up with a much crapper service. Give it five years and the post office will make Hermes or whatever they're called these days look like the model of professionalism, postage costs will be sky high and the taxpayer will be pouring more money into it than they did when they owned the fucker!

Time and again this Thatcherite nonsense has decimated public services and benefitted nobody but the greedy bastards that now own them. A political model which believes "there's no such thing as society" can't possibly be in the best interests of the society it's supposed to serve.

I’m not sure why sending a letter in the electronic age is a ‘public service’ as it isn’t and as for packages it’s a competitive market so again no ‘public service’ is required as most retailers can get stuff sent to you cheaper and just as reliable as Royal Mail. We don’t live in 1950 anymore. Perhaps government should be your ISP. That really would be a public service.

So they went on strike on behalf of the public and not for themselves ? That's nice.

Norman Fowler (sir now ) I believe advised Thatcher to reduce the state and privatise everything. We have seen the benefits of that in many areas like increased dividends for shareholders. ? Workers, not so much to that same level.

You are entitled to you opinion so respect that.

How's the water companies issue working out? Trains ? Electricity Companies ?

Lots of people have made significant amounts of money but have the services improved ?

No, no they haven't. They've all got worse, much worse.

Some things the government rightly sold off. The government has no business building cars for example. The worst things to sell off without a doubt were the water and electric. Shockingly stupid.

As opposed to the way it was in the mid to later 70s when the unions basically bankrupted the UK economy trying to preserve conditions for a generation of lazy bastards who were destroying just about every sector of the UK economy they touched.

So now its the Governments turn to bankrupt the economy now is it? (see todays Truss announcements). They have done a great job of that.

Anyway, back to the successes of the privatisation ideaology. Have we seen any?

If government had the balls to Launch a sovereign fund  paying  a little more interest then the banks  a lot of Local investors  would put their money into it , and it could be used to finance  many capital schemes in the isle of `man  , we had a similar facility some years ago all be it on a smaller scale when the public could invest money with the local commissioners for a fixed term ,  then  local people would have more affinity for what is going on in the local community , because they literally had a stake in it ,
