Mercenary
At the current rate it's not inconceivable education will be the highest paid sector, overtaking insurance & e-gaming. (It was 4th of 24 in 2021). Fantastic news for anyone in this industry.

Why should educators be worth less than people who just help fools part with their money?

Why on earth have we got ourselves into a situation where making rich people even richer is valued more than educating the population or treating the sick in the first place. 5

Because educators are paid by the taxpayer which there is a finite amount of and gambling companies are paid by millions of people all over the globe. It's like asking why do footballers get paid more than nurses. Answer there's not 80k people willing to pay 50 quid a time to watch a nurse do their job 1

I suppose it depends whether you want everyone to be better off, or you want teachers to be 'best off' a la Venezuela. Still, if they control the economics classes (was that Moorhouse's area?) who is to argue with them...

Although gambling companies pay 0% corporation tax on the island and so are defacto subsidised by the finite taxpayer. 8

CallMeCurious
Of course with the way things are going in the UK, IOMG can now afford to freeze tax thresholds and put up base rates (IOM will still be more favourable than UK) to pay for all the public sector pay rises, thus clawing back some of this pay rise over the next few years anyway. Answer there's not 80k people willing to pay 50 quid a time to watch a nurse do their job Both fair points but there is also a finite (albeit very large) quantity of gamblers. Sadly, society (and the taxpayer) will continue to pick up the wider costs of problem gambling, not the companies or their shareholders, currently the estimated annual cost to society in the UK is c£1.27bn. That would pay for over 30,000 teachers or nurses. Not sure the e-gaming industry and their high earners fully realise and appreciate the scale of their taxpayer subsidy. Agreed re: footballers but how many of those 80k people will one day rely on a nurse, possibly with their life? Sadly, society seems to crave high quality public services but simply doesn’t want to pay. 3 2
