As double yellows prohibit waiting at any time it meant that people could not  drop off or pick up passengers without breaking the law

The Highway Code definition is:

"Waiting restrictions indicated by yellow lines apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge. You may stop to load or unload (unless there are also loading restrictions as described below) or while passengers board or alight. "

Yellow lines permit passengers to board or alight. It would seem there is no need for a time limit,  as the parking wardens can see whether or not the action is continuous.

Yes there are double yellow lines. It's the road after the bus stop area outside the Gaiety.

As double yellows prohibit waiting at any time it meant that people could not  drop off or pick up passengers without breaking the law. Therefore DOI made it legal for people to do this legally. I cannot see how anyone could object to this or take issue with it

The DOI Have done the correct and decent thing for once. Take heart. 👍

But they haven't really, have they?  It could easily have taken my mum 5 minutes to get in or out of a car, let alone the time escort her where she would be ok while I park up or the other way round.

Pointless.

Are you using the Manx Highway code. Rules. 238 ~252  ? Waiting and parking

Steady on Sir. Its my job to defend the DOI on here. Its a bit strange having someone else as well.

You'll never be popular, but then that's half the fun.

Come on Gladys. Unloading is not waiting. Its when a vehicle is unattended. That's when the minute hand.....or second hand in this case.....applies.

No one is going to book someone who is dropping of either a disabled or frail person. That's not the intent of the restriction.  I think you especially are wise enough to know that.

Rule 238 has the sentence:

"Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition on waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs"

The following sentence, including the words " set down or pick up passengers" refers to school entrance markings.

See page 125 and 126 - Road Markings

It seems that waiting is not the same as passenger uploading/downloading.

But as I said above, the waiting time is not enough to locate the person you have unloaded somewhere safe while you park. So, what exactly is the point?
