One of the panellists said that he had been told this by a business contact coming to a meeting with him. Clearly they both considered this a matter of great importance, as apparently a taxi driver being critical of the way things are run is unheard of elsewhere. Come to think of it, I seem to remember similar tales at similar events in past. So whether the encounter actually happened or not is another matter. It might just be the 'tourism professional's equivalent of an urban legend. Or it might be that taxi drivers never change. But clearly the horror of people in 'marketing' when people don't repeat their own bullshit back to them is a constant. Of course a genuine tourist would take what they were told by a taxi driver with a pinch of salt, notoriously the only people to repeat such things unquestioningly are lazy journalists. But then 'tourism professionals' seem to have very little contact with actual tourists - just with other 'tourism professionals'.

Website - http://www.mikestt.im/en/home/ - car shows EMN-59 the below picture of the 'incident' on monday I saw on twitter, look at the car on the left.. That's him. Just curious what Bazza's take is on the public voice of these hard done by taxi drivers
yorik
Crazy situation on Vic St now where the Robinson's delivery driver has had to park in the middle of the road to unload rather than using the loading bay as it's rammed front to back with taxis. Can't say they made it easy for him either as one pulled forward to block the space he was trying to tuck into out of traffic

Taxi drivers trying to earn a crust providing a service to customers? Food delivery drivers trying to earn a crust providing a service to customers? DoI managers earning a substantial amount of money creating a plan that involves 5 months of intensive work to put a speed-bump on a lights-controller crossing? MHKs earning a substantial amount of money ignoring the people paying their salary?

And it's for a few months? But no let's obstruct the road, F everyone else 🙄

They mistakenly seem to think that's a new taxi rank. Last night one told me to go around then turn right in the left hand lane. Quick offer to call the control room up at Police HQ got them to shift. Edited October 6, 2022 by 0bserver

hissingsid
There will be tears before morning before long. Quite a few busses use Victoria Street so there will be delays on them probably best to avoid Douglas altogether.

There is nothing wrong with that crossing and Victoria Street worked perfectly adequately before it qualified for a 20 week fucking up by Jeff Robinson.
