Advertise there to entice the Bahrainis over here Alf must have something to bring to the table. How one tax haven might benefit another, possibly? Some potential clients and financial services relocating out of SA? There's got to be more than frayed-cuff up Alf's sleeve...

And at least this money stays on the Island. The major costs of this exercise will be in the advertising and promotion where the DoI could easily spunk hundreds of thousands in the blink of an eye. It won't be the DoI, given that MNH are involved as well this looks like a DfE (ie Visit IOM) job. No doubt they had some money hanging around. Whether they will actually spend any money on advertising or just on consultants to tell them what a good idea it is, is another matter. The additional income from the virtual cabbage will more than meet the costs. Today they were installing 'you are only one hour from the ride ' signs in anticipation! Passing Time
You don’t need theme parks to attract people. There’s plenty of things to do on the Island. Steam and MER seems to attract certain groups. We have brilliant countryside and picturesque walkways. Let’s look on the positive side instead of the negative. 2 1 1

That being said, a centre parks type venue wouldn’t go amiss

Nothing, other than stuff that no one cares about like a big wheel and cats with no tails. Every other thing we have is bigger and better and cheaper somewhere in the UK.

Why do people flock to the Scottish Islands then? They have a lot less than us but people still visit them in the thousands each year. We just don't market ourselves as much as they do. And it's a darn site easier to get here.

The lack of marketing, especially online/digital is non-existent. The only organisation that seems to make the most of that is IOMSPCo.

We need somebody (without being paid a fortune for it) to stand back, look at both and ask why does it work for them and not us? Perhaps it's because the Scottish Isles aren't a mish-mash and mix up of decaying architecture from periods through history? They've stuck with their granite and it fits in with their countryside and environment, it's authentic. We have decaying Victorian buildings and 21st century Chinese tat to welcome people, it's neither one thing nor the other.
