I’ve seen posts saying the puffins will be decimated, anyone seen any at earystane?

The only question I can see is whether we get 5 at Earystane or 10 at Druidale. I suspect there is a fairly long lead time on them and a lot of the planning stuff will also take forever, so it's a relatively good idea to start putting in some background work asap. As said elsewhere, whilst the Druidale option would be more expensive (numbers and location logistics) it would be best from a Nimby limitation angle. TheTeapot
The 5 for Earystane is the proposal that doesnt require a new landing stage on Castletown beach right? That was the idea with 4? I did read the options but it was a while ago.

It would require less infrastructure generally however. Druidale they'd basically need to build all new roads and everything associated; there is literally nothing there. You'd think the better landing option for there would be Peel or Kirk Michael area.
Fred the shred
A new landing stage well that won’t be cheap 🤣 it does not start or stop with the turbines there is a lot more to take into consideration but heigh Ho there is no shortage of money when there is a plan. It would be interesting to know how much this whole venture is going to cost when all the interstructure , installation etc is added up I bet the 42 million minus however much has been spent already will be well short of the amount needed for this cunning stunt. There have already been a team of experts giving a report on the proposed sites ching , ching.

Druidale, it suggests they could use Douglas. I suppose it is Druidale/Sulby so, the infrastructure up to Sulby Reservoir area at least would useable and were likely cleared for heavy machinery for the Reservoir work.
TheTeapot
Cheers. These bits Quote Minor modifcations would be required to a roundabout on the route between Castletown and the site to accommodate the vehicles used to transfer wind-turbines. It was noted that 5MW turbines could be lifted to avoid this problem but due to the requirement for construction of a landing stage at Castletown, 5MW turbines may not be preferable. The modifications would be temporary with gravel increasing the size of the turning area. Quote 5MW turbines would have a rotor span of 63m and could not be delivered to the site without the construction of a dedicated landing at Castletown beach. This would need to remain in place for the full life-span of the windfarm and would likely have a high environmental impact if required. Quote There are viable transportation routes from Castletown Beach via the Airport for 4.2MW turbines currently without any additional landing stage. And on page 11 its got the options, 5x4.2 or 4x5, the latter is £10m more cos of the landing ramp. So it looks like they're not planning to do that, which is good, although they'll still have to do something for their 'beach landing' of optiion 1. Or, just have one massive turbine offshore, which would produce more power than the 5 or 10 put together. Put it off Peel and link into the Peel power station.
