There are very few people who get a free taxi to the airport or hospital appointments if any.   There is a patient transport mini bus that can be accessed through a hospital department if you fit the criteria i.e. I got the service through a department of RCH because I could not drive through injury and had no one who could take me wait while I had my treatment and bring me home.    It is an invaluable service with lovely drivers and the busses are equipped to take wheel chairs.    These busses also serve the airport.     Please get your facts right and count yourself lucky you are not ill and needing this great service.

Yes totally agree with you hissingsid, l unfortunately travelled the patient transfer service with my late husband l of course drove him to his appointments. I saw many ill patients travelling on their own it was very difficult to witness and l often tried to help others too. Yes it's very a important service especially for patients who really need the support.

No, but why is it advertised as a government job?

Does it matter?  Perhaps they are assisting by providing their platform guessing that there will be appropriately skilled people who will be browsing?  Or perhaps they are assisting in the entire recruitment process?

It would matter if I applied for it assuming it was a government job, and then found out it wasn’t.

If you read the listing, it clearly refers to Hospice (and is written in the first person) and gives a link to their website.

It isn't about rattling tins, it is about running a highly specialised organisation staffed by paid employees and volunteers.  Would you really want to see it run by a WI volunteer?

Couldn't have put it better. Some people haven't a clue really. Having to have seen a relative cared for in their final days up there, I'm glad it's run in the way it is. I hope they find a good replacement to carry on the fantastic work that goes on there.

They partner with Manx Care i.e. government. If you follow the link it gives you all the information you need to know. Including a full multi page job description. Not sure what you're getting at.

Have you got any other examples of non government jobs listed on the government job site?

Perhaps they have a friend or family member affected?

So would they not be affected if it was only advertised in the Courier?

Some stuff is worth getting wound up about, some isn't, can't really see the issue.

I’ve long thought that paying a retired but well known exec £50 £70k  per annum to head up Hospice funded by tax and bequeathed dollar was a complete waste (it’s a gig I’d absolutely love - piss easy) but with a parent with Stage 4 cancer and now experiencing the service for the first time and encountering the individuals involved it is a magnificent organisation.
