More uselessness from DBC

"Let's get the proles to recycle more!"
Said Horning, leader, des Recycling Corps,
I agree said Washington, Bentley and Pitts,
and all of the other DBC [councillors],

But said Skinner, "a problem I see,"
Some might struggle with cap-ac-ity;
Flatlanders, bedsitters and those with famblies,
Already neck-deep in sh***y nappies

"Too bad for them," said esteemed Ms Claire Wells,
"I've driven 'round my estate and there are no rebels."
"What about others," said Skinner aghast,
"How many flats have you driven past?"

Well the refuse  changes were nonetheless made,
Tho' the rates for weekly were already paid.
Were there rats? Maybe, but not in the trash.
But all were remembered in the backlash.

Lofty, arrogant and stubbornly firm,
Thommeny, Shuengel, Watson did affirm,
That local democracy is most called for.
April, the year twenty twenty four.

It's not working in the UK, though.

I had it where I was living in the UK, before I moved here, and it was horrible. It'll be equally horrible here.

I'm against it simply because I've lived with it before and it was nasty.

ETA: where I lived before also had proper recycling wheelie bins, paper/plastic/tin in the bin and a caddy for glass. Batteries and fabric could be left in a bag in the caddy too. And, despite doing it properly, it was still disgusting opening the normal bin with two-week-old waste nicely stewing in the bottom.

And yet elsewhere on the island 2 collections per month has worked absolutely fine for years.

Stop buying so much stuff to throw away.

Why don't you just stop buying so much stuff which ends up being binned? Raw ingredients involve minimal packaging.

My bin's never full, Falk.

It's the stuff that can't be recycled- shitty nappies and cat litter, mainly- that I don't want in my bin for a fortnight. I had that in the UK and it was horrible.

If the Corpy disagree, they won't mind me leaving it with them.

Bag the nappies and cat litter.

Had both in the UK with separate collections (20 odd years ago) and it would have been horrible if I hadn't bagged it.

Sooner or later disposable nappies will be banned. The UK government has been moving in this direction.

Bag your cat litter. Just the bit that is dirty. Compress your garbage.

Funnily enough I do, I don't just tip it in the bottom. And it's still horrible after a fortnight.

In the UK councils did it to save money. The Corpy don't even have that excuse. The whole thing is idiotic.

Nah, there'll be a big push as to how terrible they are for the environment, then they'll slap tax on it. It's the government way.

Why should people pay for more to support a minority who cannot adjust to that?

The Corpy have said its going to save them £20,000. A quid for every person in Douglas.

They spunked more than that away in legal fees after losing that employment tribunal last year. I'd rather they kept weekly collections and got rid of the bullying senior manager who got ripped to shreds by the tribunal.

I also use a wheelie bin liner.  In a way it is using more plastic, but it keeps the bin clean (ish).

Before we started bagging waste, bins were very nasty, but you can manage it by bagging stuff.
