What "I am" entitlement? What is that even supposed to mean? Sounds like someone posts a wild accusation on the internet with no proof. If I get more info and the images, I will check what, if anything, really happened.

Do you really need it spelling out?

Ironically I witnessed first hand this week living opposite one of the Douglas Borough Councillors General Rubbish Bins being emptied on the day of the Garden Waste day . I just wonder how many of these Councillors who have upset everyone with their fortnightly pick ups are taking advantage of their status as well to make it look like they are not struggling with it ?

I'm not one to worry about it myself as I've always recycled but think this is actually encouraging those who wouldn't anyway to drop rubbish all over Douglas . So please Mr Councillors if you are going to encourage this way of thinking please follow through with it yourself or you will cause more damage than good . I do apologise for my rant and I have collected photographs to send to Douglas Corporation to stop this happening in future so won't name and shame on here as they will know who they are , but being as vocal as he is he might want to be careful because it wasn't only me who noticed .

I did wonder if/when this type of alleged conduct might occur, based on my own similar observations.

One of my former neighbours was a senior DBC employee.  Their bins - they had two - would periodically be left out on non-collection days, and emptied.  Spotting this on one such non-collection day, I left my bin out too.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained etc.  I watched the bin men empty the neighbour's bins, and as the wagon pulled away, they saw me discovering mine had not been emptied too.   Funnily enough, after that my neighbour only put one bin out for emptying, and never on a non-collection day...

@Amadeus:

* There was presumably a study that concluded that 100% generic black-bin waste would translate neatly into 50% recyclable waste and 50% other. Would it be possible to see a copy of that study and its conclusions?
* There will have been an impact assessment made, that predicted the risks of the change and their mitigations. Can we see that?
* Would it be possible to get a link to the public consultation that was conducted?
* Would you be able to publish the guidance to householders that was issued (I was one of those who missed it)?

Finally, would you be so kind as to indicate the names of the elected officials who proposed this reform (I'm not interested in those who supported it or voted for it, but those who brought it to the agenda) so that I can hold people to account in the next local elections?

Thank you.

Hi Amadeus. I genuinely appreciate your evangelism for local democracy and transparency.

I'm bumping this just on the off-chance that the decision was well-considered and not driven by ideology. You have to realise that the decisions you collectively make affect thousands of people at a time, even if your decision makers are only voted in with a slim minority.

Please give me the courtesy of an answer, even if it's that you can't or won't supply the information.

Thanks.

Hi Amadeus, why are you posting a picture of a pink balloon on Douglas Promenade on FB ?

It’s a really poor attempt at a parody of Stephen Kings ‘it’ with the balloon string apparently coming up from a drain hole on the prom.

I missed these very reasonable questions first time around, and would also be interested in the answers, especially for the first two. (I've followed the pros and cons of the "reform", but not its genesis.)

@Amadeus, given you seem to spend a lot of your spare waking hours on some form of social media / internet I hope you'll get to @Viddy well's post eventually.

they would be better giving the fireworks budget to the Salvation Army or the food bank  it will be better applied to the less will off of the Cities  citizens , than going up in smoke  with a few bangs , time for some of these champagne socialists in the labour party to step up to the plate and grow a pair , stop the waste of money now !

The sponsor is contributing towards the cost. The fireworks are a popular event that contributes to the quality of life and also gets people into town. There are always multiple sides to things like this.

I will ensure to run every image or idea past the Manxforums Cultural Censorship Committee in future. Humour is a serious matter.

It’s a wise choice for any German to run things through a humour filter first.
