The DBC are useless thread has been a long running thread, this bench thread could easily be a standalone thread??? ...but there you go, maybe you are seeking justification to oppose the new benches???

It’s easier to block/control/bury one thread. Policing two or three requires extra effort when you really don’t even want one.

Exactly it isn’t hard to work out the basic flaws in this whole idea. Ringing up or writing to the family of the dead after 10 years. Finding they’ve moved house, or left the IOM (or are even dead themselves). Then trying to find who the successor to the agreement is and pissing off a load of people in the meantime over a highly emotive tribute to a dead relative they bought in good faith.

But the charge will apply to new plaques not the existing ones, so families will know they have to pay again after 10 years.

That doesn’t mean that they won’t move location, change address, die, or otherwise be hard to trace when the renewal comes up. It’s a completely idiotic idea that is fraught with opportunities for bad press and unnecessarily pissing people off.

They may know that Glad but there may still be problems in getting in touch with them. Moving house etc.

Maybe there could be discounts for extended periods etc  50 % off per annum for 50 years or so.

In all truth, and it sounds heartless but who is going to cough up for a plaque for some long deceased ancient relative they never met. Money would be better spent on an appropriate charity ( although they probably wouldn’t do that either)

Yes, that's right, but your point was that they bought the plaques in good faith.  Yes, in good faith knowing there will be a charge after 10 years.

Whatever. We can’t have anyone challenging anything to do with DBC can we 😂

I agree it does seem heartless, and tracking down relatives after 10 years could be tricky.  But my point is that the charge is not being applied retrospectively to people who have bought plaques in good faith in the knowledge that there is no further charge.
