I see Daphne Cain, Davey Ashford and John Shimmin. Political heavyweights were out then!

Hope the people in the photos are happy being posted.

The chair did say that the meeting was being recorded at the start and it was a public meeting.

Captain Carter did announce at the start of the meeting that there would be recording, so anyone who didn't want to appear should "consider their position".

All three parts of the meeting were quickly loaded by Moulton for your delectation:

vast majority  at the meeting voted to return to a weekly refuse collection in Douglas ,  Ms Wells and the environmental services chair Horning  kept quoting Uk and EU figures  ,which really have no bearing on the isle of man   as transport costs , houses in multiple occupancy   ,flats and new apartments with minimal waste bin  storage have obviously not been factored into the   waste collection study  which   for some reason  the corporation want to keep to themselves  ,

there were a number of irate people  at the meeting who thought certain councillors were trying to bully through their own agendas , no mention of the money wasted on Gas  propelled vehicles , and what the bin men now do  as  they only collect the house hold waste  every 2 weeks ,and there is no green waste to collect in the winter ,

their waste strategy  is falling apart   and looking badly planned ill thought out  no consultation   and relying on  the public allowing themselves to be bullied into it ,which I think isn't going to happen ,   council members sadly came over as arrogant  and not prepared to listen  to ratepayers concerns  or look at photographs highlighting the problems  with overflowing bins and vermin , , if there had of been a vote of no confidence  it certainly would have been carried tonight

Well put, seems councillors forget who pays their overheads and fees for making them feel like they ‘are something special’

the fool  Amadeus and the idiot who proposed this fortnightly bin collection whilst still increasing rents and rates with impunity from critical comment should shake their head and Amadeus forgets he never got a single vote to be a public representative in the Corpy, in a town (pretend city that rate payers were not consulted on) he quite obviously doesn’t understand the complexity of the residential set up.

Clare Wells did not come across as arrogant, but nervous.  So would I be, faced with that sea of downturns mouths.

Of course she read from a prepared statement, what else would you expect?

It is about effort, engagement and adaptation, from both sides. It shouldn't be a battle as to who 'wins', but a battle as to how to make it work.

Recycling isn't new, we just got into the habit of not thinking how stuff can be re-used, hence the term "where there's muck, there's money".   There used to be the night soil man who would clear out your latrine because there was a use for that waste.  A rag and bone man.  Pop, milk and beer bottles were regularly re-used.  The saying that the only bit of a pig you can't use is the squeal.

It isn't a new thing, it is just sensible management of the finite resources we have. We got into the habit of disposal because it became so easy.

But then again you weren’t there. They can try to put whatever slant on it that they can but her and Horning simply came across as detached and arrogant. Don’t go into local politics if you aren’t prepared to be criticized for stupid decisions that you make and if you aren’t prepared to listen to people. Especially when nobody voted for you anyway.

But no doubt Gladys has viewed the videos.

Do you know I wasn't there?
