Now we just need variety of cuts in there. Steaks in tesco last week sirloin £ fiver each , had 2 on Saturday , the equivalent in Shoprite would be around £13 and not a patch on the quality of tesco , people are looking both at cost and quality these days , Local produce is sadly doomed unless they can be more competitive in quality and price
Gladys
I had a half shoulder of Manx lamb from Tesco at the weekend. It was lovely and cheaper than Tesco's own. I hope this is a turning point for Manx meat. Could never understand why it was so expensive. The quality is there for Manx meat, it just needs to be priced attractively. I would pay a bit more for Manx neat, but not a whole lot more. ETA Shoprite meat, even Manx meat is just inferior. Badly presented and pricey. Moghrey Mie
IOM government has poured money in over the years but doesn't seem to have questioned the efficiency of the meat plant.

John Wright
Went out for Xmas lunch here in Catalunya. Starters was a mix of tapas, patatas bravas, grilled prawns, mussels in garlic, chipirones ( baby squid battered and fried ), goats cheese salad, Serrano ham and local cured cheese. Mains was roast pigs trotters. Crispy crackling on the outside, some meat and lots of soft gelatinous content to suck off the bones. Offal is alive and well here.

CallMeCurious
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-68173958 Oh dear the Meat Plant woes continue. Good job it's run at arms length. Well apart from the £2 million subvention which no doubt will be increased now to cover the cost of the latest mess. The action plan implimented 14 months ago seems not to be working too well. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-63636454

Kopek
Does anyone know the 'actual' reason the meat had to be withdrawn? It's blamed on a packing machine, bit vague? Could have been metal shards on the meat, a gearbox oil leak, tho' food machines use food safe lubricants. There was some speculation of sabotage! Any more info?
